Description

Our client, a highly regarded educational organization based in Oakland, California, is seeking a skilled Litigation Legal Secretary with experience in employment law to join their team. This role supports a dynamic legal department, working on cases involving public agencies such as the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil litigation and employment law, with expertise in managing litigation processes, calendaring, and interacting with public agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide full litigation support, including document preparation, formatting, and filing (both state and federal courts).

  • E-file with courts, particularly handling employment-related matters involving public agencies such as PERB, EEOC, and DFEH.

  • Prepare legal correspondence, pleadings, and discovery documents.

  • Maintain and organize case files, ensuring accuracy and timely updates.

  • Manage complex litigation calendaring, including hearings, deadlines, and case milestones.

  • Coordinate with attorneys, outside counsel, and clients regarding case progress.

  • Assist in preparing exhibits, trial binders, and other trial-related materials.

  • Communicate and interact with various public agencies to ensure compliance with legal protocols.

  • Handle general administrative duties, such as scheduling appointments, managing correspondence, and updating legal databases.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of litigation legal secretary experience, with an emphasis on employment law.

  • Expertise in handling cases involving public agencies such as PERB, EEOC, and DFEH.

  • Proficiency in e-filing through court systems (Odyssey, ECF, PACER).

  • Strong understanding of litigation procedures, case management, and calendaring.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and legal document management software.

  • Prior experience in the public sector or working for educational institutions is a plus.
