Chenango County's Department of Motor Vehicles Unit has an opening for a MOTOR VEHICLE CLERK. This is a position in the Motor Vehicle Unit of the Chenango County Clerk's Office. The work involves responsibility for assessing eligibility for and issuing drivers' licenses and permits, and vehicle registrations. An employee in this class reviews applications and a variety of supporting documents for accuracy and completeness of information and uses a personal computer to transmit information to a central computer at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. The incumbent also administers and grades vision, hearing, and written tests, collects fees and penalty charges and balances a cash drawer. A considerable amount of customer contact is required in carrying out the duties of this position. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Senior Motor Vehicle Clerk or Deputy County Clerk with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the duties of the position. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of an employee in this class. Does related work as required.<p> MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: <li>Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and EITHER:
<li>(A) Possession of an Associate's Degree in Secretarial Science, Office Technology, or a closely related field; OR <li>(B) Two years of full-time paid office clerical experience or its' part-time equivalent which included customer service; OR <li>(C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.<p>

The position has a 37 1/2 hour work week and 2023 starting pay rate is $18.16 per hour and includes a full benefits package.<p> A Civil Service examination will be required for permanent appointment at a later date.
