Merck Senior Strategic Portfolio Manager - Hybrid in North Wales, Pennsylvania

Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated professional to join our team as a Senior Specialist in the Strategic Portfolio Management team, within the HHDDA (Human Health Digital, Data & Analytics) organization. In this role, you will contribute to the strategic planning and management of our organization's Strategic Portfolio. Collaborating closely with the team, you will play a key role in optimizing the portfolio and prioritizing Top Programs to ensure the successful delivery of initiatives aligned with our business objectives. Additionally, you will be instrumental in implementing and driving the systematic goal-setting process through OKR (Objectives and Key Results) and conducting quarterly business reviews (QBRs) to track progress and performance.

You will report to the Director of Portfolio Management and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Portfolio Strategy and Planning: Assist in the development and implementation of portfolio management strategies in alignment with organizational goals. Support effective resource allocation, risk management, and project prioritization.

  • Portfolio Governance: Participate in portfolio governance processes and mechanisms. Provide insights and recommendations to ensure effective decision-making.

  • Portfolio Performance Monitoring : Assist in tracking key performance indicators and metrics to assess portfolio performance. Provide insights for decision-making and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

  • Risk Management : Identify and assess risks and dependencies across projects within the portfolio. Contribute to the implementation of risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.

  • Stakeholder Management : Foster strong relationships with stakeholders at various levels of the organization. Ensure effective communication, collaboration, and alignment on portfolio objectives and priorities.

  • Portfolio Reporting and Communication: Assist in preparing regular portfolio status reports, executive updates, and presentations. Communicate portfolio performance, major milestones, risks, and opportunities to senior management and key stakeholders.

  • OKR/QBR Implementation: pivotal role in establishing and driving the systematic goal-setting process and quarterly business review practices within the leadership team.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience in project management, portfolio management, or a related role.

  • Ability to work hybrid and come into the Rahway, NJ or North Wales, PA office at least 3 days per week.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

  • Familiarity with portfolio management methodologies and processes.

  • Demonstrated success in managing portfolios of projects and programs, driving strategic objectives, and delivering results.

  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at various levels.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts and issues.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a global and matrixed organization.

  • Familiarity with Change Strategy and Change Management principles

  • Experience and familiarity with implementing and managing OKR frameworks and OKR methodologies, practices, and industry standards.

  • High School Diploma.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a project management, portfolio management, or related role within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.

Expected salary range:

$111,400.00 - $175,300.00
