The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a proactive, professional, customer service-focused student to work part-time as a Human Resources (HR) Assistant. As an HR Assistant you will assist with day-to-day needs and inquiries to support the HR team. The position duties include:
Assisting in processing new hire paperwork, filling in on interviews and candidate screenings, dispositioning job candidates, and report building
Supporting HR team members with administrative tasks such as updating training files, personnel files, and employee information in our various HR Systems
Updating & monitoring HR processes and work instructions to ensure documentation is up-to-date
Completing assigned projects. These projects are strategic in nature and provide exposure to the various functional areas of Human Resources (i.e. benefits, talent acquisition, employee relations, compliance, compensation, training and development, policy writing, etc.)
Offering SDL employees excellent customer service by consistently being available to respond to walk-ins, phone/email inquiries, and offering solutions
This position is part-time and requires 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during summer semester, all during business hours (M-F, 8-5). You will have the opportunity to build your 20-hour school/work week based on your class schedule each semester
Required Qualifications:
USU or Western Governors University student studying in Management with a Human Resource emphasis or other closely related major
An interest in working in HR and a familiarity with the career
Ability to work effectively and independently with minimal supervision while following established procedures and processes. This requires a self-starter who is excited to take initiative on tasks and projects
Proficient skill level in MS Office products, including Outlook & Excel
Ability to prioritize tasks and a willingness to step in and help with other jobs/projects as needed
Interest in learning new HR software/systems quickly
Ability to continuously seek ways to improve processes and efficiencies
Strong Writing Skills. Proficiency in drafting and updating documentation and crafting articulate email communications for internal and external stakeholders is essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to effectively convey information clearly and concisely
Excellent phone, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. This includes asking questions and soliciting feedback from team members
Must have exceptional attention to detail
Be a team-player and be collaborative in an organization experiencing high growth
Ability to maintain confidentiality with employee records and personal data
Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US Person
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of employment law
Familiarity with different areas of Human Resources (i.e. talent acquisition, benefits, etc.)
Understanding of HR processes
Familiarity with HR Systems
