Responsibilities

The Engineering Programs department seeks a talented individual to serve as a Fire Protection Engineering Manager. The selected candidate will be responsible resource management of engineering personnel as well as ensuring staff compliance to code, standards, and process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily responsibilities as an Engineering Manager include but are not limited to executing tasks assigned by the Engineering Programs Division manager, management and daily execution of projects, provide technical and professional guidance to staff, provide interpretation of process/procedures along with codes and standards, determine and coordinate technical training, ensure staff has tools/software required to perform work, ensure office environment is proper for engineering work.

  • Provide daily oversight and direction to 3-5 individuals.

  • Participate in audits from Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Personnel Investigations, Defense Board, International Organization for Standardization, and internal organizations, as well as prepare presentations based on management requests, work with customers to address issues/requests, coordinate with project managers on project priorities and assign resources to projects.

  • Develop technology proposals to fund growth and development of engineering tools and technologies , review company and DOE processes and orders to ensure compliance, have a full understanding of nuclear facility safety analysis, operations, and interface requirements, perform duties as a discipline checker, perform duties as a project engineer.

  • Exercise considerable discretion and judgment in performing work and conducting evaluations of operation/process effectiveness.

  • Initiate changes required to implement process improvements and work with other work groups and outside agencies, customers / sponsors, suppliers , as required, to effectively execute projects and programs.

  • Develop relationships as ne e ded to perform work effectively .

  • Provide guidance to students, interns, contractors and other support personnel, as a mentor or as a team/project leader.

  • Interface with other team members, analyze processes and procedures to increase efficiency, monitor group performance against metrics and goals, perform employee performance evaluations, work with employees to develop goals.

  • Create an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, empowered to address issues, and supported to resolve issues.

  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.

  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 14 years of related and progressively responsible experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years supervising engineering staff preferred.

  • General knowledge needed of Integrated Safety Management policies and procedures, related performance documents, organizational structure, and current energy executive orders and federal energy management goals and requirements.

  • Work under general direction, receiving guidance as required to ensure project/program objectives are met and business policies and strategies are appropriate.

  • The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Work at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada) may be required in support of these functions.

  • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).

  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

    MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

    Department of Energy Q Clearance(position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707_14&rgn=div8) , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Annual salary range for this position is:$148,324.80 - $237,328.00.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
