Job Description

Teledyne Instruments Inc. is seeking a Product Line Manager (PLM) who will provide leadership and guidance for the TapTone food inspection system product line. The PLM will manage key customer accounts, guide product development, provide customer demonstrations and sales agent training, manage pricing and sales forecasts, and evaluate and support customer requirements for customized products. The PLM will also work with manufacturing and repair to prioritize builds and deliveries to maximize customer satisfaction. The PLM will work closely with the Sales and Engineering teams, as well as the Vice President of Business Development and Project Execution, to establish the product line strategic plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conduct market analysis and properly position TapTone products in the marketplace

  • Perform competitor analysis to determine how Teledyne products are positioned

  • Write Customer Interest Knowledge Briefs to document customer needs and desires

  • Define, develop, and prioritize product features and capabilities

  • Perform product line strategic planning

  • Own all product roadmaps

  • Be the interface with engineering for product feasibility, cost, and schedule

  • Support the engineering Release to Production process

  • Conduct and have responsibility for product Release to Sales

  • Help develop marketing materials, demonstrations, and training materials

  • Provide accurate financial and material forecasts to ensure the business unit meets its financial projections

  • Provide oversight of product line inventory

  • Support inventory turn and working capital requirements

  • Work closely with Operations via Sales Inventory and Operations Planning to ensure adequate inventory planning and on-time delivery for the product line

  • Manage integrated product teams to set manufacturing priorities and define desired product lead times

  • Work with operations planners and buyers on material strategies to ensure on-time deliveries of promised goods and services

  • Drive all customer order issues to closure to allow for on-time deliveries

  • Identify systemic operational issues, find root cause, and drive solutions to remove roadblocks

  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities to improve product line operational efficiencies

  • Write application notes / and document customer use cases on all assigned product lines

  • Write / submit trade papers

  • Provide Customer Support and Service

  • Take phone calls, answer emails, provide technical assistance, work with customer service group on RMAs, and provide technical documentation

  • Be the Teledyne liaison to the package inspection community

  • Lead Product Line Failure Review Board to drive product issues to closure

  • Troubleshoot product issues and form working groups

  • Provide Inside Sales Support to Include:

  • Order Quoting

  • Engineering Special setup, processing, management / oversight

  • Oversight and execution of sales orders

  • Assist with Order Entry and Review

  • Negotiate and review customer order Terms and Conditions, Finance Terms, and Shipping Terms

  • Support Export Classification / Process with Trade Compliance

  • Attend technical conferences and trade shows

  • Develop Requirements for and Manager use of product demo gear

  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time, international and domestic.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or technical field of study with experience in the packaging industry

  • Experience with direct customer interaction in the packaging industry

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the food inspection and packaging industry

  • Experience with electro mechanical systems

  • Familiarity with product lifecycles from initial customer requirements, through engineering, sales, manufacturing and after sales support

  • Experience with product development and managing product lines

  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office products is essential Excel, Word and Power Point

  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with strong interpersonal skills and experience with routine sales quotes and more complex proposals

  • Demonstrated leadership experience

  • Due to the type of work at the facility and certain access restrictions, successful applicants must be a "US Person" (US Citizen, US Nationals, lawful permanent residents, asylees or refugees)

Preferred:

  • 5 or more years of experience in the food packaging industry or as product manager in a related technical field

  • Experience supporting, remotely and on-site, customers outside the United States

  • Experience with IFS ERP system
