The Division of Fleet Management is responsible for acquiring, disposing of, and maintaining the City's vehicle and equipment assets. Fleet Management consists of a heavy-duty shop, a medium-duty shop, and a light-duty shop, with a quick shop and night shop to support additional maintenance needs.
The Department of General Services, Fleet Management Division, is seeking an Automotive Service Attendant to join the service desk team. The Service Attendant is responsible for greeting customers, writing automotive work requests, assisting the team in daily operations and proving exceptional customer service.
Essential Functions
Greet customers who are dropping off and picking up their vehicles from service
Assists customers in person, by phone, or via email with their automotive service needs
Work closely with automotive repair technicians to facilitate service
Inspecting vehicles upon delivery to service desk and write service tickets
Deliver vehicles to shops or park in designated area of lot for service and repair Schedules drop off and pick-up of vehicles for maintenance
Knowledge of automotive industry terminology and products
Proficient in using phones, computer systems, and software applications
Previous automotive service experience required
Education/Experience
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.
Required:
- One year in Automotive service.
Preferred:
One year of customer service experience.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Additional Information & Requirements
Valid driver's license required.
Commercial driver's license preferred.
Work Schedule:
- Mon-Fri, 8 hrs/day, 6:30am-3:00pm, 40 hrs/week
Signing Bonus:
This position is eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus.
Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
