Job Summary:

This Advanced Manufacturing Engineer for New Product Integration (NPI) designs and develops manufacturing processes and systems focused on exceeding quality, cost, and schedule requirements for new product integration. This role will partner with cross-functional project teams to help lead product development activities that include purchasing equipment, materials, and parts, and establishing and communicating manufacturing requirements and strategy while adhering to all applicable processes for introduction, qualification, and release. This role will also support other strategic business and continuous improvement initiatives as needed.

Where is the work:

This position will be onsite each day in Noblesville, IN.

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes Helmer values as demonstrated in personal productivity and quality of work, management of internal/external relationships, actively seeking out and participating in Continuous Improvement practices, and willingness to engage and support team initiatives.

  • Possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively on complex business projects.

  • Implement design for manufacturing tools and processes to evaluate and improve designs during new product development.

  • Implement production lines for new and existing products, including line layout, process flow, capital equipment implementation, documentation, and training.

  • Manage the planning and execution for all qualification and validation protocols for proper process and equipment implementation.

  • Lead process validation and process control implementation through the facilitation and execution of PFMEA processes and tools.

  • Design, build, and document fixtures, gauges and/or inspection tools for new products.

  • Conducts time study observations, develop takt & cycle times for various line rates including standard work, staffing, SWIP, and balance charts for new and existing products.

  • Evaluate and implement innovative, cost effective, safe, manufacturing processes and techniques, which will improve the effectiveness of the manufacturing operations and business systems.

  • Develop and improve manufacturing methods, tools, and equipment to mistake-proof processes.

  • Develop processes and layouts that are balanced and tailored to TAKT times

  • Develop and implement manufacturing flows, workstation layouts and organization, and station controls, which optimize value added operations, operating costs, and product / process quality.

  • Integrate closely with various functional team members collaborating while enhancing design for manufacturability and ease of integration to manufacturing facility.

  • Project management knowledge and skills. Estimates the time and resources required to complete a project for self and cross-functional partners. Develops plan and process for viable project.

  • Provides daily leadership, coaching, training, and feedback to other NPI and project team members

  • Supports the establishment and execution of team and individual goals and objectives in collaboration with engineering manager and/or NPI team lead

  • Support the development and execution of new NPI strategies, program elements and framework to keep pace with BOS maturity progression, business growth and changes

  • Supports NPI roadmap to match strategy developed in collaboration with innovation team

  • Mentor others in training and development of NPI launch processes

Qualifications

  • 7 - 10 years of relevant work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing (preferred) orother Engineering principle required

  • Experience justifying, implementing, and validating capital equipment

  • New product launch/integration experience preferred

  • Broad knowledge of product design, manufacturing, and assembly processes required

  • Experience designing, modeling, and fabrication of components a plus

  • Experience with reading & reviewing equipment drawings, equipment electrical system diagrams, and equipment mechanical layout diagrams a plus.

  • Understanding of mechanical systems in a semi and fully automated industrial application a plus

Certifications / Licenses :

  • Formal lean manufacturing training preferred.

  • PMP or equivalent project management certification a plus

  • Six Sigma, RedX or equivalent problem-solving certification a plus.

  • Design for Manufacturability preferred

Computer Systems / Software :

  • Familiar with (or strong desire to learn and master) Microsoft Office applications.

  • Autodesk CAD/Inventor experience required.

  • SQL database development and Power BI dashboard development a plus.

Key Competencies :

  • Proficient knowledge of lean, automation, business systems, quality and product design as they relate to design for manufacturing principles and improving operator efficiency

  • Proficient knowledge of validation metrics and systems related to quality, cost, rate, and sustainability

  • Demonstrated ability to execute simultaneous complex projects

  • Knowledge of life cycle cost analysis, dimensional capability analysis, and capacity analysis.

  • Knowledge of methods, accepted practices, considerations and regulatory requirements associated with safety and protection of workers, environment and site.

  • Fosters an environment of trust and open communication from senior leadership to entry level operators.

  • Ability to promote collaboration and teamwork inside/outside the department to reach common goals; open to and solicits diverse views and opinions from others; breaks down barriers to build consensus.

  • Ability to actively partner with team members to provide them with pertinent information, techniques, instruction, feedback and encouragement to maximize their success on the job.

  • Strong communication skills directed towards training operations staff and actively participating in process conceptualization discussion, as well as justifying ideas with other organization functions
