Corewell Health Medical Lab Technician Full Time Evenings in Niles, Michigan

Job Summary

Responsible for exercising independent technical judgment in the performance of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical specimen test processing, test result verification, QC performance evaluation, management of corrective actions, and test results publication. May operate and maintain instruments, prepare samples, culture medial and reagents according policy and procedure.

Essential Functions

  • Assures quality care for patients and families. Promotes patient confidentiality in the work environment. Works cooperatively, both individually and as a unit with other personnel, departments, and disciplines to facilitate multidisciplinary, patient-centered care.

  • Prepares controls, standards, patient test specimens, and test system reagents as necessary to process patient testing. Performs QC, PT, and patient testing in a competency validated manner. Evaluates new test methodologies and/or troubleshoots method failures under direct supervision of management.

  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment to ensure ongoing and uninterrupted department operations. Calibrates equipment as needed in the course of daily operations.

  • Maintains technical competency-validated proficiency on all equipment and test procedures. Maintains knowledge of professional and regulatory standards and assures standards are met and documented.

  • Expects and supports department service standards. Demonstrates positive client service attitudes and actions. Facilitates and participates in hospital and department QA/PI activities.

  • Demonstrates consistent use of PPE’s.

  • Performs clerical and phlebotomy duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Required Associate's Degree Medical Technology program, chemistry, biology, clinical laboratory science, or related field

  • CRT-Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology Upon Hire required Or

  • CRT-American Medical Technologist, Certified (AMT) - AMT American Medical Technologists Upon Hire required Or

  • CRT-Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - NCA National Certification Agency Upon Hire required
