Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer / Developer

Job Description

As an integral member of our Supply Chain Integrated Planning team, the Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer Developer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and support of critically important enterprise Business Intelligence (BI) solutions. Working with multi-functional teams, you will participate to gather and document reporting requirements to meet business needs. You will then transform those needs into technical specifications to design, develop, test, and implement BI and analytic solutions that turn data into knowledge.

In this mid-level role, you should have at least 5 years of experience in data engineering and business analysis. You should be analytical and an excellent communicator. If you also have an intuition for business, problem-solving skill, and the ability to handle large projects end-to-end, we’d like to meet you!

This is a Hybrid role based out of our Newport News, VA Headquarters location, in accordance with the Ferguson's Flex schedule; 3 days office / 2 days remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather user requirements and translate business needs to technical specifications.

  • Design, build and deploy BI solutions as they relate to SQL development projects.

  • Define, develop, optimize, manipulate, and implement complex SQL database queries.

  • Conduct analyses from diverse data sets.

  • Create dashboards, visualizations, and reports for requested projects.

  • Develop and update technical documentation.

  • Act as domain expert in all areas of SQL report development and data integration.

  • Provide support as required to ensure the availability and performance of developed processes, reports, and dashboards for both external and internal users.

  • Pilot and provide proof-of-concept solutions around next-generation business intelligence and analytics tools.

  • Create, modify, read, and understand stored procedures.

  • Write, test, and deploy scripts for process automation.

  • Design and implement technology standard methodologies, guidelines, and repeatable processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal communication, including technical writing skills.

  • Solid understanding of database concepts.

  • Experience with BI technologies (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, SSRS, Power Apps, Power Automate).

  • Creative, flexible, and quick to learn.

  • Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative.

  • Proven track record of success including understanding project requirements and delivering on them.

  • Analytical mind with a problem-solving skill.

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.

  • Experience developing with .NET framework preferred.

  • Adept at SQL programming using Microsoft SQL-Server T-SQL.

  • Solid understanding of Azure cloud infrastructure.

  • Experience writing and maintaining scripts in PowerShell.

  • Experience using Microsoft Graph API.

  • In depth knowledge of the following technical tools: Azure Portal (Data Factory, Storage Accounts, SAAS, and Logic Apps), Azure Data Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, and Visual Studio (SQL Server Integrated Services and ASP.NET Web Apps).

  • Experience using code repositories, e.g. GitHub, DevOps.

  • Desire to learn a vast array of on-premises and cloud technologies.

  • Curiosity to investigate sources of data and ability to match that data to its related business function.

  • Solid attention to detail and high-quality work.

  • Great teammate who is also able to work well independently.

  • Able to work under stress, meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Pay Range:

$5,444.76 - $9,537.00

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
