Cloud Solutions Architect Leader

PRIMARY PURPOSE : Establishes, plans, and administers the overall policies and goals for cloud-based infrastructure services in conjunction with senior IT management. The Director Infrastructure Services - Cloud designs and drives the implementation of secure, scalable, and highly available cloud-based solutions that adhere to defined reference architectures; provides vision, develops and monitors business plans and budgets, and partners with internal stakeholders on cloud-based infrastructure and other areas as assigned. This role is responsible for the overall planning and management of the company data center and corporate IT infrastructure services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs the architecture, implementation, and key support of cloud-based infrastructure appropriate to the long-term strategic goals.

  • Drives the overall architecture and design of solutions for Sedgwick’s cloud environments, translating functional application designs in infrastructure designs for delivery teams.

  • Leads cloud engineering teams to ensure their deployments follow the published cloud reference architectures.

  • Ensures that cloud-based services are delivered in a manner that complies with architectural and compliance standards, established best practices, and customer service goals.

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to develop strategies for migrating on-prem applications/solutions into the cloud.

  • Leads discussions with appropriate groups to define best practices around cloud administration which includes deployment, monitoring, and alerting.

  • Conducts technical audits of existing cloud deployments to insure they are following current cloud architecture standards.

  • Collaborates with the cloud FinOps team to discover areas for cost reductions and develop ongoing cost saving strategies.

  • Help drive troubleshooting efforts during cloud related outages.

  • Responsible for liaison management to technology vendors providing cloud-specific infrastructure services.

  • Researches and recommends cloud-specifics structure tools and resources to satisfy operational requirements.

  • Proactively recommends course of action to maintain cost effectiveness and competitiveness.

  • Proactively promotes positive client/prospect relations.

  • Provides direction for departmental financial and colleague resources issues.

  • Proactively assists in defining strategies and direction for future infrastructure projects.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Travels as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers company personnel policies in all areas and follows company staffing standards and training recommendations.

  • Interviews, hires and establishes colleague performance development plans; conducts colleague performance discussions.

  • Provides support, guidance, leadership and motivation to promote maximum performance.

Education & Licensing

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, engineering or related discipline with an IT focus required. Advanced technical or business degree preferred. Technical certification(s) such as Certified IT Architect (CITA), Certified Enterprise Architect (CEA), Microsoft Cloud Platform and Infrastructure (MCSE), or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional highly preferred.

Experience

Ten (10) years of technology management experience with large-scale infrastructure systems or equivalent. A minimum of 5 years of related experience spanning at least three disciplines which can include (systems architecture, network architecture, enterprise architecture, datacenter architecture) with at least 3-4 years of cloud solutions architecture experience. Multi-cloud experience is preferred, with emphasis on implementing Microsoft Azure enterprise solutions. Must show proven ability to architect highly complex scalable cloud solutions across a global enterprise.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Experience implementing and supporting Microsoft Azure infrastructure and topologies (Operations Management Suite, Application Insights, Azure App Services, Azure SQL Databases, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Backup, Security Center, Azure Networking, Azure Storage, Azure Automation)

  • Networking experience (routing, protocols, subnets, SDNs, network topologies, DNS, Load Balancers)

  • Experience (2-3 years) with infrastructure as code tools and engineering practices (Terraform, Ansible, ARM)

  • High-level fluency in one or more scripting languages (Python, Perl, or similar)

  • Experience with CI/CD tools and engineering practices (Jenkins, Octopus, Azure DevOps)

  • Experience with monitoring, alerting, and pipeline analysis tools

  • Strong documentation skills including the creation of detailed reference architecture diagrams

  • Proven and demonstrable experience in architecting, designing, and implementing high volume, high availability cloud applications utilizing a high degree of automation

  • Proven ability to maintain both a strategic long-term outlook and enterprise perspective, while also supporting tangible, business-driven and IT-delivered solutions

  • Quickly understand organizational dynamics and management priorities, and to be able to work effectively in a fast paced, results driven company

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical decision-making skills

  • Project management skills

  • Good oral and written communication including presentation skills

  • Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work with constantly changing priorities

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Good customer service approach to complex technical issues and solutions

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to meet or exceed performance competencies

As required by law, Sedgwick provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in jurisdictions requiring pay transparency in job postings. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and cost of specific location. For the jurisdiction noted in this job posting only, the range of starting pay for this role is $120,000 - $180,000. A comprehensive benefits package is offered including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, 401k and matching, PTO, disability and life insurance, employee assistance, flexible spending or health savings account, and other additional voluntary benefits.
