The WSP UK CDM and Health and Safety Team are looking for experienced Health and Safety Consultants / Senior Consultants with a record of success in complex health and safety consultancy projects in the Construction, Demolition, Infrastructure, Hospitals and Health, Education, Highways, Gas and Electrical Utilities, Renewables including offshore and onshore Wind Farms and on shore Solar Farms, Manufacturing, Engineering, Airports, Flood Alleviation, Residential and Retail sectors, including CDM 15 and Occupational Health and Safety Management.

Successful candidates can be based out of any convenient WSP office, with flexibility on home working, and site travel and attendance.

We have a requirement for a dynamic and flexible consultant to service our growing work load at either Senior Consultant level and increase support to our teams based in Leeds, Manchester, or Newcastle.

  • Assist the Project Manager with the delivery of multiple projects within the WSP Business Management System, including creating the project, delivering the scope of services within the project budget and timescales.

  • Providing H&S / CDM advice and services to our internal and external clients.

  • Undertaking reviews and checks of safety related documentation, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and questioning generalisation and assumptions.

  • Carrying out safety monitoring visits to Client’s sites and carrying out audits against site safety documentation; and

  • Supporting in the collation and development of bidding / tender responses.

  • Travelling to sites, WSP or Client Offices to facilitate our work, which may, on occasion, lead to overnight stays.

Essential:

  • NEBOSH General and/or Construction Certificates or equivalent;

  • Proven track record of providing competent and health and safety advice in a multitude of project environments / sectors;

  • A good understanding of the relationship between the construction design process and CDM 2015 and experience in working in that space on projects;

  • Demonstrable working experience in all or some of the industrial sectors described above.

  • Have a willingness to travel across UK with occasionally overnight stays;

  • Ability to multi-task;

  • Energetic;

  • Hardworking;

  • Organised;

  • Reliable;

  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy skills;

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Team player;

  • Dependable;

  • Good time management;

  • Self-motivated;

  • Good working knowledge of standard business and IT software; and

  • Hold a full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Incorporated Member of Association of Project Safety (IMaPS);

  • Technician or Graduate Member of Institute of Safety & Health (TechIOSH or GradIOSH);

  • A good working knowledge or qualifications in auditing of ISO 45001 and other relevant Health and Safety standards;

  • Evidence of relevant further specialist training and experience, including CDM, and evidence of regular CPD; and

  • Aspiration to work towards either Chartership or Fellowship in an accredited professional body.
