Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Associate Director Clinical Research Operations for NJMS- Infectious Diseases. The Associate Director of Research Operations will provide leadership, technical, and fiscal oversight for international infectious diseases clinical research endeavors of the Center for Emerging Pathogens/Section of Infectious Diseases and its faculty investigators.Among the key duties of this position is the following:
  • Provides strategic vision in the development, implement, and execution of clinical protocols funded by NIH/NIAID, specifically tuberculosis research programs aimed to identify biological responses to eradicate tuberculosis.
  • Is responsible to oversee the storage of epidemiological data, performing pertinent statistical analysis resulting from research protocols at international sites and assure high level performance and effective quality assurance/quality control.
  • Assists the Director in operations within the Data and Operations Management Center (DOMC) assuring success in clinical research efforts, while in the field working directly with site personnel.
  • Provides guidance and recommendations for the growth and development of a research unit that is fiscally responsible and addresses the strategic plans of the organization.
  • Has critical input in business development at corresponding international sites, identifying and accurately budgeting and performing cost analysis in determining the most cost-effective approach to be implemented.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (Advanced degree (MD or PhD degree) preferred) in a health policy, management and global health with specialization in infectious diseases.
  • At least 5 years of experience in conducting research at international sites is mandatory.
  • Experience in development/proposal generation, study implementation, administration and coordination of human subjects/clinical and translational research in resource-poor international settings.
  • Experience in the implementation of clinical studies with clinical, translational or basic aims/goals.
  • Experience in dealing with sponsored research and funding agency representatives and guidance.
  • Previous management experience in biomedical research administration is desirable.
  • Defined research area of interest exemplified by at least 5 first authored publications in peer reviewed scientific journals.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • He/she should have expertise in a research discipline that can expand the current portfolio of translational research.
  • Ability to write, communicate, work with grants submissions, proposal generation, negotiate with potential partners in collaborative programs.
  • Understanding of sponsor guidance in award administration, fiscal oversight & monitoring subcontractor performance.
  • Knowledge of all applicable international and regulatory compliance regulations - human subjects protection, institutional biosafety, sponsor and institutional fiscal/personnel policies/regulations, and international shipping and handling of infectious biologic materials
  • General and advanced knowledge of infectious diseases, global health and institutional operations.
  • Ability to manage, prioritize, a large, changing portfolio of projects, sub-projects, variety of activities and management of staff across various fields to accomplish project aims and goals. * Exceptional level of professionalism, discretion and ability to work on highly sensitive/confidential projects.
  • Cultural sensitivity in dealing with international collaborators and resource poor sites.
  • Demonstrated ability to support, encourage and mentor junior staff.
  • Travel to international sites, sponsor meetings and other required travel.
  • Cultural sensitivity in dealing with international collaborators and resource-poor institutions/sites.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment and time-sensitive situations required
