Job Responsibility Overview

  • This new hire is an integral part of Marketing Data Science Modeling team at Sallie Mae. He/she will frequently interact with senior management and gain high visibility across the firm. The new hire will be responsible for every element of the end-to-end model lifecycle, spanning from data collection, EDA, model development, testing, implementation, monitoring, validation to other ad-hoc analytics. The corresponding deliveries are to facilitate and to optimize the marketing-related decision-making process, marketing strategy design & execution, marketing campaign planning, financial valuation, and other key marketing mandates. The successful candidate should have a solid quantitative background in the fields related to statistics, marketing analytics, econometrics, computer science or machine learning. He/she should possess high level quantitative modeling skillsets, such as but not limited to Regressions, Multivariate Testing, Bayesian Estimation, Machine Learning (Supervised & Unsupervised), Reinforcement Learning, Causal Inference, Market Equilibrium Theory and Experimental Design. The candidate will be expected to build robust quantitative models end-to-end in accordance with industry standard practice and company policy within the internal and external regulatory compliance framework. He/she is expected as a strong programmer (Python/SAS/SQL/R) who can independently complete complex and sophistical algorithms to support statistical analytics and computation needs. This new hire should be able to articulate complex quantitative concepts and to translate such quantitative terms into layman’s terms.

  • Please note this position is a hybrid position, which requires office attendance 3 days a week. The office attendance requirement is subjective to the future change of company's policy.

What You'll Do

  • Model Development, Research and Documentation

  • Develops quantitative models for audience targeting, customer behavior analysis, or other quantitative marketing mandates

  • Researches on state-of-the-art modeling methodologies, to help expand the variety of internal modeling approach

  • Presents data-driven marketing insights to senior management and other internal committees

  • Partners with internal Marketing Strategy teams in all areas including Experimentation, Measurement and Customer Behavior Study

  • Documents models in accordance with Model Risk Management Policies and Procedures

  • Monitors, tests, and updates the models on a routine basis

  • Model Validation

  • Communicates model methodology details with internal model validation teams and internal audit teams

  • Carries out ad-hoc quantitative analysis in response to model validation inquires

  • Ad Hoc Analysis

  • Responds to data analytics-related requests from senior management

  • Develops presentations and analysis to support internal operational changes, board of director updates and external groups inquiries

  • Measures marketing performance across different marketing channels

What You Have

Minimum Education, Skills and Experience Required

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Marketing Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering, or other quantitative fields of study; or bachelor’s degree in STEM fields additionally with 2+ year of marketing-related working experience.

  • 1+ years of model development experience in financial services industry or marketing industry is a must. Outstanding fresh graduates with a Ph.D. degree in STEM field are welcome to apply.

  • 1+ years of working experiences with quantitative modeling using Python, AWS, SAS, SQL, and/or R.

  • In depth knowledge of quantitative technique, included but not limited to Regressions, A/B Testing, Segmentation Recommendation, Multivariate Testing, Bayesian Estimation, Machine Learning (Supervised & Unsupervised), Reinforcement Learning, Causal Inference, Market Equilibrium Theory and Experimental Design.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills required to effectively and concisely present key findings to senior management.

  • Hands-on experience in data visualization via PowerPoint, Tableau, Excel, Power BI, etc.

  • A flexible mindset, a proactive attitude and a strong desire to be future subject matter expert.

  • Accountable for the successful and timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.

  • Empathy to customer experience and being thoughtful about what we can do to improve it.
