Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, model and other risks.

Background on the Position Morgan Stanley Credit Risk Management is recruiting a Vice President in New York for the Credit Policy, Governance, and Regulatory (CPGR) Team, which is part of the Credit Risk Management (CRM) Second Line of Defense. This position reports to the Global Head of CPGR.

CPGR develops, enhances, and maintains Credit policies and procedures, manages Credit related regulatory exams and internal audits, and coordinates/reviews/challenges responses to Credit related ad hoc requests from regulators. Its key functions are, among other things, to establish/maintain Credit policy and governance standards, spearhead remediation projects related to regulatory and audit findings/deliverables, advise on compliance with regulatory/audit guidance and expectations, and provide credit governance solutions globally. The team works in close collaboration with subject matter experts globally in Credit Coverage, Capital, Risk Analytics, and Reporting, as well as other departments within the Firm.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in Credit Risk Management, knowledge of risk and finance issues related to trading and lending activities, strong ability to write clearly and concisely, and familiarity with large bank/securities regulations.

Primary Responsibilities - Develop and update Credit policies and procedures, taking into account current regulatory expectations and Firm practices - Initiate and execute various projects and efficiency initiatives related to Credit policy, governance, and regulatory/audit guidance - Coordinate the Firm's communications and deliverables for Credit related regulatory exams/audits and requests - Analyze key upcoming regulatory guidance to assess level of compliance with current practice - Assist in the preparation of senior management reports and materials on policies/procedures, regulatory exams, internal audits, and credit reviews

  • Bachelor's degree; MBA or JD is desirable
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Credit Risk or a related field at a large, complex financial institution or a top consulting firm
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical/critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proven leadership abilities and relationship building skills
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Highly detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy
  • Knowledge of financial services industry regulatory guidance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience interacting with large bank/securities regulators (e.g., FRB, OCC, SEC, PRA, FINRA, CFTC) is a plus

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $120,000 and $200,000 year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
