The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

The Eleanor & Lou Gehrig ALS Center in Columbia University's Department of Neurology is seeking a part time Respiratory Therapist (RT) to join our multi-disciplinary clinic care team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pulmonary function testing, including vital capacity, peak cough flow, and negative inspiratory force and check the following vitals: O2 saturation, respiratory rate, heart rate, and end tidal CO2
  • Discuss results with the clinic physician and/or nurse practitioner to determine patient's need for respiratory therapy and/or durable medical equipment (DME)
  • Teach patients and caregivers about the use of DME, which may include but is not limited to invasive and non-invasive ventilators, cough assist, and suction devices. The RT may also discuss with patients other respiratory issues unrelated to DME.
  • Document the respiratory assessment within the patient's medical record.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience
  • Current Respiratory Therapist certification/registration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Participation in the medical surveillance program:
    • Wear N-95 respirator
    • Contact with patients and
    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
