Overview

The Technical Supervisor directs and supervises mechanics so that operations work, maintenance work, calibrations and tests are conducted safely, efficiently and correctly. Responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and approving test results for routine work as well as for new or repair equipment/systems. Provides technical consultation to operating and maintenance groups, which is essential to the integrity and reliability of the steam system. Recommends, develops, and implements new designs and processes to improve reliability, productivity and reduce costs. Leads troubleshooting efforts and coordinates repair and restoration of equipment to minimize outages, control costs and improve reliability. Be a leader with the training and development of management and union personnel.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise mechanics so that maintenance work, calibrations and tests are conducted safely, efficiently and correctly.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and approves test results for routine work as well as for new or repair equipment/systems.
  • Supervise mechanics investigating steam leaks, responding to complaints, and investigating any other field related issue.
  • Review outage planning documents
  • Provides technical consultation to operating and maintenance groups, which is essential to the integrity and reliability of the steam system.
  • Work with Steam Services, Engineering, and other groups to investigate and help resolve any external complaints
  • Trains union personnel on tasks performed in the field. Supports union mechanics with their training and sign off of tasks in order to advance by getting them prepared for promotional tests.
  • Recommends, develops, and implements new designs and processes to improve reliability, productivity and reduce costs.
  • Leads troubleshooting efforts and coordinates repair and restoration of equipment to minimize outages, control costs and improve reliability.
  • Maintain the Quality of Customer Service and Quality of Life Indices to acceptable levels.
  • Review and write procedures for proper operation and maintenance of facilities. Monitor, order and account for material, supplies and equipment.
  • Schedule personnel to optimize productivity and meet operating goals and budgets.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 8 years' work experience working in a steam facility, power plant or other electrical or mechanical environment. or
  • Associate's Degree and 6 years' work experience working in a steam facility, power plant or other electrical or mechanical environment. or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years' work experience working in a steam facility, power plant or other electrical or mechanical environment.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Must be able to read/interpret mechanical and electrical schematics. Required
  • Possess strong communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team consisting of multiple departments and vendors. Required
  • Knowledge to prepare a daily work schedule for union employees. Possess the knowledge to prioritize work based on the work schedule and based on changes to real time conditions. Required
  • Knowledge of Steam Distribution outages, troubleshooting activities, pinpointing, complaint investigations, acceptance testing, technical report writing, operational auditing, workflow analysis, employee relations, and safety. Preferred
  • Knowledge of routine mechanic activities in order to evaluate performance of the task and provide feedback if necessary. Preferred
Licenses And Certfications
  • Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
  • Work in, under, and on top of all types of company vehicles and/or equipment
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
  • Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Use hand-eye coordination to adjust controls on equipment
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
  • Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
  • Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
  • Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.

Minimum Salary: 95000.00 Maximum Salary: 137000.00 Salary Unit: Yearly
