This position is remote. Candidates may be required on occasion to visit the local office when/if needed.

This position works to maximize results and increase profitability for Patent Litigation matters and their attorney teams by performing financial analysis, management reporting, budgeting, resource management, and expense control. The Sr Legal Project Manager supports the Patent Litigation’s practice management efforts. These efforts include analyzing Patent Litigation financial information at the group, client, and matter level; collaborating with multiple internal departments to encompass a variety of tasks related to pricing and profitability analysis; developing, implementing, and coordinating practice and legal project management platforms and tools, training Patent Litigation lawyers to use those tools and implementing best practices in matter management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field

  • 10 years’ experience managing projects in a professional services or litigation environment

  • Experience with filings with various courts and jurisdictions, such as Federal District Courts, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the International Trade Commission

  • Proven ability to synthesize and analyze financial data and prepare reports to assist in making project management and financial-related decisions and making risk assessments on Patent Litigation matters

  • Strong communication skills and ability to successfully consult, collaborate and inspire confidence and trust with the firm’s senior partners, lawyer-leaders, and staff leaders

  • Outstanding organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-level priorities in a fast-paced changing and sometimes global environment to successful conclusion in a timely manner

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite applications, specifically MS Excel and spreadsheet/database applications

Preferred Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) with a disputes or litigation focus

  • Project management certification (PMP) or similar certification

  • 10 years' experience in Patent Litigation with particular experience with Patent Litigation’s administrative proceedings, the lifecycle of a matter from inception to trial, and the costs associated with same (discovery, motion practice, preparing for trial)

What will your day look like?

As a Sr Legal Project Manager, you will work directly with Patent Litigation lawyers and timekeepers to instruct and support matter management best practices, including developing and documenting clearly defined scope and assumptions for their matters, creating budgets and timelines at the phase or task level, and then verifying scope-fee alignment throughout active matters based on established project management methodologies. You will create and implement procedures and workflows for Patent Litigation timekeepers when managing new matters, including creating and reviewing progress reports for on-going matters, tracking financial metrics for both on-going and completed matters (as part of "after matter" reviews), ensuring accurate new matter set up, and promoting prompt and hygienic cash conversion where appropriate. You will also introduce and train Patent Litigation timekeepers on the Firm’s Matter Management methodologies.

Additionally, you will collaborate with Business Intelligence and IT on the development of client-level and matter-level progress reports for Patent Litigation teams, Practice Group leadership, and other senior stakeholders (Firm C-suite, Chief level, etc.) You will analyze progress reports and/or follow-up with Patent Litigation lawyers on matter plans and budgets that require modification or communication with clients. You will also manage other duties as assigned in support of maximizing Patent Litigation financial performance.

Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Other Requirements

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

The expected annual pay range for this position, if hired to work in Los Angeles, San Diego or Seattle is $139,989 - $208,239 per year. If hired to work in New York City the expected annual pay range is $146,352 - $217,705 per year. If hired to work in Palo Alto or San Francisco the expected annual pay range is $152,715 - $227,170 per year. The compensation offered to a candidate selected for employment will be dependent upon various factors, including the candidate’s geographic market, skills, educational and professional background, experience, and overall qualifications. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k).
