The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Designer to join our Firm. In this position, you will be responsible for handling design and the full execution and production of brand-consistent Skadden communications and materials.. This position will be based in our New York office and has an in-office working schedule. Please note that the Firm will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.

  • Handles design and production of brand-consistent materials, including client-facing presentations and capabilities pieces; pitch and presentation templates; client mailings; internal and external websites; publications; recruiting materials; invitations and other collateral for client, diversity, alumni and law student events; announcements; ads; social media posts; podcasts and videos; and other Skadden-branded materials.
  • Instructs non-designers in use of Firm-specific PowerPoint templates and maintains handbook on templates.
  • Maintains brand guidelines for Firm-wide use.
  • Coordinates and helps direct photoshoots; and maintains current/archived files for all headshot photos.
  • Oversees work of more junior designers on ads/signage/presentations/newsletters and photography archiving.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
  • Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Complete proficiency in the Adobe design apps, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver; HTML coding, video editing and basic animation experience
  • Strong typographic and layout skills; illustration, infographic design and animation/visual effects knowledge
  • Excellent craft and precision for hand-building comps
  • Significant knowledge and experience managing full-cycle of print production: from obtaining estimated costs and negotiating vendor bids to supervising prepress work, and from checking over and marking up proofs to properly overseeing a press check
  • Experience with photoshoot direction/management and can handle basic photo retouching
  • Communicates effectively and respectfully with a wide range of clients and vendors
  • Strong grammar, punctuation and spelling skills necessary
  • Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects in an organized and timely manner; and scrutinize work with tremendous attention to detail
  • Full working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications (especially PowerPoint & Word)
  • Ability to take direction from senior staff and clients (internal and external) and offer new ideas/fresh perspective
  • Adjusts design aesthetic and workflow to meet evolving Firm needs
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team
  • Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in graphic design or related area
  • Minimum of five years design experience in a professional services organization or other corporate environment

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.

Salary Details

$110,000 - $120,000
