Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registered Dietitian. The Department of Population Health is seeking a skilled Clinical Trial Registered Dietitian with expertise in implementing Diabetes Prevention Programs (DPP) and providing personalized dietary counseling based on the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet. The ideal candidate will be a Registered Dietitian and preferably, strong proficiency in Spanish, with the ability to guide participants in making sustainable lifestyle changes through evidence-based nutrition education, exercise recommendations, and behavior change strategies. The RD should be prepared to implement programs similar in length, rigor, and comprehensiveness to the DPP described in: Knowler, W. C. (2002). Diabetes Prevention Program Research Group: Reduction in the incidence of type 2 diabetes with lifestyle intervention or metformin. N. Engl. J. Med., 346, 393-403. Job Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) in alignment with evidence-based guidelines.
    • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to educate participants on DPP principles, including lifestyle modifications, nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral strategies.
    • Design personalized dietary plans based on the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, taking into account participants'; health conditions and dietary preferences.
    • Counsel participants on effective exercise routines tailored to their needs, ensuring safe and sustainable physical activity levels.
    • Conduct thorough assessments of participants'; nutritional status and dietary habits to tailor interventions accordingly.
    • Create individualized nutrition and lifestyle plans that align with DPP, DASH, and exercise recommendations.
    • Utilize motivational interviewing and behavior change strategies to empower participants to make informed food choices and manage chronic health conditions effectively.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential participant records, documenting dietary plans, progress in adopting DPP and DASH principles, and exercise routines.
    • Regularly track participants'; adherence and progress toward achieving dietary, exercise, and health goals.
    • Collaborate with the research team to integrate nutrition-related outcomes and participant progress into the clinical trial's data collection efforts.
    • Contribute insights that enhance the research findings related to dietary and lifestyle interventions.
    • Ensure adherence to ethical guidelines and regulations related to dietary counseling and clinical trials. Uphold participant confidentiality and privacy in all aspects of practice.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Nutrition Sciences or a related major. Successful completion of a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE) 1200 hour dietetic internship program with emphasis on clinical applications. Registered Dietitian (RD). Successful completion of the RD exam approved though the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR -the credentialing Agency for ADA) - must be obtained within the first six months of employment. Certified Dietitian/ Nutritionist (CDN) Must be obtained within 1 year of hire date. Effective oral, written communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in providing dietary counseling and education, preferably within a clinical or healthcare setting. Knowledge of evidence-based Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) principles and ability to apply them in counseling sessions. Proficiency in designing personalized dietary plans and exercise recommendations in alignment with the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet. Familiarity with motivational interviewing and behavior change strategies to support participants in adopting healthy lifestyles. Adherence to ethical guidelines and regulations governing dietary counseling and clinical trials. Strong documentation skills, ensuring accurate and confidential participant records. Master's or doctoral degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential. Extensive experience implementing Diabetes Prevention Programs (DPP) and counseling participants on DASH diets and exercise. Proficiency in providing nutrition counseling in languages relevant to the participant population, with a strong emphasis on accessibility and cultural sensitivity. Previous involvement in clinical trials or research projects related to nutrition and chronic disease prevention. Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish, enabling effective communication with Spanish-speaking participants and enhancing accessibility to counseling services. Experience with motivational interviewing and/or cognitive behavioral principles.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $32.37 - $46.97 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
