Job Description:

A Postdoctoral Researcher position is currently available in the laboratory of Dr. Alessandro Lagana within the Department of Oncological Sciences and Tisch Cancer Institute. The lab focuses on computational cancer genomics and precision medicine applied to Multiple Myeloma and other hematological malignancies.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will lead research projects to identify novel drivers of high-risk disease in myeloma patients, investigate the implications of inter and intra-tumor heterogeneity for personalized treatment, and define and characterize determinants of response to targeted therapy and immune-oncology treatments, including CAR T cell therapy and bi-specific antibodies, through the development and application of novel tools for the analysis of bulk and single-cell DNA and RNA sequencing. The Postdoctoral Researcher will analyze complex multi-omics data, interpret results, and review and present data for publication and/or presentation. The Postdoctoral Researcher will report directly to the Principal Investigator (PI).

The Tisch Cancer Institute is a vital component of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital and plays a key role in the Mount Sinai Health System, which is one of the largest health care systems in the nation. We are a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated center and provide a multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatments and clinical breakthroughs that may one day put an end to cancer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Duties:

  • The Postdoctoral Researcher will conduct a variety of research tasks under the direction of the PI using advanced computational biology, machine learning and statistical techniques, including network modeling, gene expression analysis and analysis of next-generation sequencing data.

  • Must be able to read and understand scientific data being applied to conduct the research.

  • Will collaborate with the PI in the development of new projects and research methodologies. Incumbents are expected to stay apprised of the literature as well as practical skill sets relevant to the field.

  • Will nurture collaborative relationships with fellow scientists within the institution, locally, nationally and internationally.

  • Will ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

Education:

  • A Ph.D. degree.

Requirements:

  • Experience in a research environment.

  • Previous experience in bioinformatics and computational biology, including analysis of next-generation sequencing data, biomarkers discovery and machine learning techniques.

  • Excellent communication skills in written and oral English are essential.

  • The candidate is also expected to be self-motivated, creative and capable of contributing productively in a team environment.

  • Strong analytical skills.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the ISMMS and the Sinai Postdoctoral Organizing Committee - UAW.
