POSITION OVERVIEW
Assists in processing and tracking legal matters of various kinds
Supports theOfficeofLegalCounselbyrespondingtoFreedomofInformationLaw("FOIL"}requests
Helps trackandcomplywithstatutorydeadlines
Analyze andcompileresponsiverecordsforFOILrequests
EnsurethatFOILresponsesareappropriatelyidentified,redacted,disclosedinatimelymanner,anddonotviolateany applicable statutes, confidentiality laws or restrictions
Saveresponsiverecordsinanonlineaccessiblefilingsystemforinternalreviewandexternalproductionwithinthe appropriate deadlines for FOIL
Respond toroutinesubpoenasforinstitutionalrecords
Review andrespondtoauthorizationforHumanResourcesrecordandstudentrecordrequests
Organize andmaintaincaseormatterfiles,andrelateddocumentation
Assist inpreparingarbitrations,litigation,hearingsandotherproceedings
Perform researchandwritingactivities
Prepare opinions,reportsanddraftsofresearchactivities,utilizingsuchtoolsasLexisNexisUni,Westlaw,andthe internet
Maintain thesecurityofhighlyconfidentialinformationasperCollegeandUniversitypolicies and ensure that information is securely handled
Assist withprocessingofcontracts,affiliationagreements,litigationrecordsandsubpoenafiles,employeeandstudent disciplinary actions, human rights complaints, and other matters
Compile andanalyzelegaldatapertinenttocases;preparesummaries
Assist LegalCounselinthedevelopment,refinement,anddailyoperationsoffilemanagementsystems
Research,gather,andcompilecasedata;studyprovisionsandnuancesofcontracts,collectivebargainingagreements, CUNY policies, and laws or regulations
Provide outreach on behalf of the Office of Legal Counsel to faculty staff and students
Conduct initial intake screening of matters related to discrimination, harassment and sex based misconduct
Draft summaries of interviews related to intakes or reports filed with the office
Assist with scheduling and calendaring for all office staff
Record all information pertaining to intakes and investigations
Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual statistical and narrative reports
Provide support with trainings, investigations and programming
Assist withvariousdailyadministrativedutiesinsupportoftheoffice/teamaswellasprovidingbackuptotheOffice Administrative Staff (phone, file management, intake, etc.}
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Fiveyears'relatedexperienceinalawfirmorin-houselegaldepartmentasanofficiallydesignated paralegal required.
Experience in conducting investigations
JD
Knowledge of trauma-informed best practices
