The Nurse Residency Program at Hospital for Special Surgery, the world's leading academic medical center focused on musculoskeletal health, has achieved Practice Transition Accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Nurses in accredited transition programs benefit from evidence-based curricula that promote the acquisition of knowledge, skills and professional behaviors necessary to deliver safe, high-quality care. Nursing residents are given the opportunity to work alongside experienced staff and learn in a real-life setting to be better prepared and more confident as they enter the workforce or transition practice settings.

The Perioperative Operating Room Nurse Residency was built upon an educational course designed by the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN). Residents rotate through all of the orthopedic subspecialties learning both scrub and circulating roles. At the end of the six-month experience, The program includes a mix of classroom, lab and clinical experiences, working side by side with preceptors who are experts in the operating room nursing practice. The HSS Professional Development Center features a mock OR and simulated patient care setting, including "Sim Man," to help assist new graduate nurses in their transition to the world of "real time" nursing.

As an integral member of our Magnet Nursing team, your focus will be - the delivery of the world's best patient care! Working in an evidence-based Nursing environment that commands excellence every day, you will learn to provide comprehensive nursing care to our patients in the Operating Room setting.
