Medical acumen

• Demonstrates in-depth understanding of assigned therapeutic areas

• Serves as subject matter expert in multiple disease states

• Provides subject matter expertise to other team members as needed

• Remains current on the latest clinical trial data and treatment trends

· Attends medical meetings, ad boards and relevant congresses to gather data for strategic insight and creates any required materials (eg, discussion guides, program content) and follow up summary and recommendations Travels to scientific meetings

• Assures that written materials meet project objectives and contain appropriate scientific and medical messages, marketing messages and objectives when available

• Conducts background and literature research to support new business efforts and deliver at pitches when needed

Client conduit:

• Builds client relationships and elevates client confidence through strategic partnership while understanding client goals

• Participates independently in client-facing meetings and provides strategic and/or scientific advice

• Defines, identifies and works with clients and faculty on the development of medical communications materials including: peer-to-peer programming content, advisory board content and other enduring materials

• Assists client team and faculty with pre-program content development (e.g. abstracts, slides, etc.) with regard to issues of presentation content, length, content overlap with other presenters, and meeting program objectives.

Crucial Collaborator

• Manages the development and completion of medical communications projects/scientific content, including writing, editing, faculty approvals, and production; and is responsible for the quality, scientific and medical accuracy and integrity, and timeliness of assigned projects.

· Development includes: Necessary background research, working with client and team to determine outline for project, writing of slides, preparing materials for legal and regulatory review with clients, incorporating all stakeholder feedback, keeping track of deadlines

· Tracks the work of researchers, copyeditors and freelance writers/editors throughout the development process to ensure on-time delivery.

· Initiates discussions with the account team regarding any potential barriers to successful project completion that may arise (deadline, hours, budget, etc.) and suggest solutions that address client and Heartbeat needs.

· Assists medical writers and copywriters by ensuring appropriate messaging is communicated across all projects

· Mentors and assist in training junior level team members

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two to five (5-7) years of clinical, writing, publishing and/or pharmaceutical experience

  • Experience in medical advertising and/or communications, marketing/strategic planning, and the journal publication process is preferred

  • A background in medical writing is desirable (but not required)

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret scientific and medical data

  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage projects with limited direction and work within tight deadlines are required

  • Superb and persuasive communications skills, both written and verbal

  • Adept at storytelling

  • Able to simplify and clarify complex concepts
