Business Continuity Management (BCM) is essential in today’s environment. The ability to prepare for and respond to a disruption such as a natural disaster, infrastructure failure, or pandemic underpins our commitment to deliver for our customers and protect our colleagues.

The BCM team is part of the Global Services Group (GSG) at American Express. This team works with colleagues across the Company to implement and oversee resilience, continuity, and response capabilities to safeguard employees, customers, and products and services. The team coordinates planning and preparedness for potential service disruptions and other crises. The team also coordinates global or regional crisis responses, monitors developing issues while assessing organizational preparedness, and drives after-action crisis analyses and reporting for senior leaders.

The Operational Resilience Manager/Senior Manager is responsible for supporting the implementation and strengthening of the company’s operational resilience framework across the enterprise. This includes ensuring that a consistent framework is established to systematically identify important business services, measure impact tolerance, support scenario testing, and provide senior leadership reporting of significant operational resilience risks. The Operational Resilience Manager will also support the daily processes and activities within the Business Continuity Management organization including monitoring and preparing for potential crises and responding to acute crisis moments.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Support the development and maintenance of the Operational Resilience framework, including policies, procedures, and standards

  • Develop and manage Operational Resilience reporting to required committees and AXP Board

  • Implement methodology to identify Important Business Services (IBS) and map the IBSs to locations, people, third parties, systems and critical data elements

  • Define methodology for assessing impact tolerance of a potential outage in Important Business Services.

  • Collaborate with teams across the company, such as Operational Risk, Third Party, and Technology, to implement the Operational Resilience framework for Scenario Testing (e.g., development of severe but plausible scenarios that will be tested to measure resilience of the AXP Operational Resilience Plan

  • Gather, summarize, and present key data utilizing dashboards and reporting through analytic tools

  • Partner with operational resilience co-ordination teams in international markets to ensure consistent implementation of operational resilience framework

Minimum Requirements

  • 3 – 5 years of experience in Operational Risk, Business Continuity Management or related risk management program

  • Ensure accountability and coordination across all organizational areas of resilience and services (e.g., technology, cyber, real estate, third party)

  • Experience managing projects across multiple stakeholder groups with ability to maintain a focus on delivering tangible results

  • Strong data analytics: Able to manipulate raw numerical and qualitative data, and convert into metrics and dashboard reporting

  • Excellent communication skills: Proficient in technical and business writing, able to produce written reports and templates, able to effectively present information based on audience seniority and level of formality

  • Build a strong network and leverage relationships and influence to get things done

  • Self-motivated with an ability to work on one’s own with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge of Data architecture and technology incident management / testing methodologies and project mapping

  • Familiarity with Operational Resilience regulatory requirements (e.g., SR 20-24, DORA, UK FCA regulations)

  • Experience working on regulatory / compliance projects or programs

Qualifications

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits
