What You’ll Be Doing

As a member of the US Finance, Product Control team, you’ll provide expert information, advice, and decision-making support to facilitate the success of CIBC’s Capital Markets, Treasury, and Corporate Banking businesses.

As an Associate, you’ll interact with Finance and Capital Markets personnel, as well as partner with other infrastructure groups on initiatives (including global initiatives). You’ll provide both analytical and initiative support and delivery to the Capital Markets and Treasury businesses in the US.

The CIBC Finance group provides financial services to CIBC’s businesses through effective governance and decision support processes. These services include financial, management and regulatory reporting, maintenance of accounting records and internal controls, financial analysis and planning, tax planning and compliance, treasury, global sourcing and payment processing, regular reviews of business line performance, corporate real estate and liaison with CIBC’s investors. In addition, Finance assists Corporate Development in providing financial advice regarding CIBC’s business opportunities and transactions.

The US Finance team consists of nine members. The Product Control team provides expert information, advice and decision-making support to facilitate the success of CIBC’s Capital Markets, Treasury and Corporate Banking businesses. US Finance provides three key services to our clients: daily financial estimates (DFE or daily P&L), accounting and control, and new business initiatives and analytics support.

How You’ll Succeed

Meet the key accountabilities below assigned by the Head of US Capital Markets Product Control l:

Daily P&L

  • Produce, and explain Daily P&L prior to circulation for a variety of Capital Markets and Treasury businesses, including accountability for daily revenues and decomposition accuracy.

  • Explanation around Daily P&L numbers including analysis of P&L fluctuations and significant drivers for senior management reporting

  • Month end reconciliation of Daily P&L vs Actual

  • Consolidation and review of business and entity DFE commentary.

  • Review, explain and communicate Independent Price Verification (IPV) results to key stakeholders for US business lines. Manage stakeholder comfort and sign-off process.

  • Ensure month end and quarter end reporting is complete and accurate.

  • Be constantly aiming to automate and improve processes

  • Maintain and update procedures and review and approval documentation

Accounting

  • Ensure month end and quarter end reporting is complete and accurate and compliant with both IFRS and US GAAP.

  • Understand and be comfortable with the relationship between the numbers being reported as part of the daily P&L for the US region and legal entities and the resultant accounting and balance sheets and income statements.

  • Ensure that balance sheet and income statement numbers are reconciled and reviewed. Rigorously follow-up on any outstanding issues.

  • Maintain and update procedures and review and approval documentation

  • Perform team admin tasks as assigned by manager.

Strategic and New Initiatives

  • Contribute to US Finance input and feedback on Change Initiatives and New Product Onboarding.

  • This includes implementing any required source system and manual process changes and updating procedure manuals to reflect same.

Who You Are

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance or Accounting and/or 3-5 years business related experience.

  • Experience ideally includes experience with a broad range of Capital Markets products, notably: Fixed Income, Margin Lending, Securities Lending, Options, Futures, Derivatives.

  • Ability to see issues from multiple points of view, whether it be the Line of Business, Legal Entity, Product, Source System, etc.

  • Well-developed organization and prioritization skills in order to handle multiple tasks (prioritizing daily work with various project work and demands of client base) within an extremely dynamic environment.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills to develop and maintain productive working relationships on very complex issues with the staff and management of Front Office, Risk Management, Technology, and Finance

  • Self-motivated team player with a flexible approach to problem solving

  • Strong leadership skills an advantage

  • Able to accept and take responsibility

  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

  • Control orientated with a thorough and analytical approach

  • Well-developed computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to work with and manipulate large sets of data from multiple sources

  • Speaking up if witnessing behaviors that drive poor or unfair outcomes for clients, team members or other stakeholders

  • Escalating matters that can result in adverse market practices and outcomes, thereby negatively impacting CIBC’s reputation as a leading financial institution

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of USD$95,000 – USD$115,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. Additional total compensation and benefits details will be provided during the hiring process.
