JPMorgan Chase Manager of Software Engineering - Java in New York, New York

As a Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer and Community Banking in Payments space, you serve in a leadership role by providing technical coaching and advisory for multiple technical teams, as well as anticipate the needs and potential dependencies of other functions within the firm. As an expert in your field, your insights influence budget and technical considerations to advance operational efficiencies and functionalities.

Job responsibilities

  • Provides guidance to immediate team of software engineers on daily tasks and activities

  • Sets the overall guidance and expectations for team output, practices, and collaboration across teams and stakeholders

  • Anticipates dependencies with other teams to deliver products and applications in line with business requirements

  • Identifies and mitigates issues to execute a book of work while escalating issues as necessary

  • Provides input to leadership regarding budget, approach, and technical considerations to improve operational efficiencies and functionality for the team

  • Manages stakeholder relationships and the team's work in accordance with compliance standards, service level agreements, and business requirements

  • Creates a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect for the team members and prioritizes diverse representation

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience. In addition, demonstrated coaching and mentoring experience. Experience leading technology projects

  • Experience managing technologists with 8+ reports and ability to guide and coach teams on approach to achieve goals aligned against a set of strategic initiatives

  • Ability to guide and coach teams on approach to achieve goals aligned against a set of strategic initiatives

  • Strong background in Java/J2EE, REST APIs, Web Services, Spring Framework and AWS Services in public cloud infrastructure (S3, Terraform, PostgreSQL DB, Dynamo DB)

  • Proficient in automation and continuous delivery methods and in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle

  • Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security

  • Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)Practical cloud native experience

  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent

  • In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems

  • Practical cloud native experience

  • Experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and expertise in technology disciplines

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience working at code level as an engineer

  • Experience working with Payment Systems
