Position Overview:

As the Linux Systems Hardware Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for managing a small team of systems engineers working in office and lab settings who test, certify, and manage the lifecycle of hardware platforms and internal components running Red Hat Enterprise Linux supporting the electronic trading environment.

You will collaborate with systems engineers, network engineers and developers across the SETI (Specialized Electronic Trading Infrastructure) and Enterprise Engineering organizations, operations support teams, and the algorithmic trading development team. A key responsibility of this role will require you to partner with strategic vendors and suppliers including Intel, AMD, Dell, Arista, and Cisco, to understand how their roadmaps and technical architectures can be incorporated into our medium-term planning.

This role will routinely interact with senior technology management in infrastructure and application development so both written and verbal communication skills are critical.#LI-SK1

Required Skills and Qualifications:

*Leadership: *

• People Management: Directly manage a team of engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Conduct regular performance evaluations and facilitate professional career development opportunities.

• Project Management: Oversee multiple projects concurrently, from inception through deployment, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Experience with Jira is required.

• Product Management: Work with product managers from across Technology to develop, enhance and maintain the lifecycle and select artifacts for Trading and Linux-based products

• Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies related to hardware implementations and vendor relationships and work with management to resolve effectively

• Compliance and Security: Ensure systems comply with firm regulatory and cyber security standards, including robust measures to safeguard sensitive data and operations.

Technical:

• At least 5 to 10 years of demonstrated hands-on experience building solutions with the Linux Operating system in complex environments.

· The hardware certification process will require hands-on trouble shooting of hardware, software, and third-party component integrations on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v7-9).

· Demonstrated use and hands-on experience building automations in languages like Python, Ansible, Bash

· Deep understanding of the network interface card, network stack and tuning parameters for optimal performance

· Experience with OS tuning parameters to achieve optimal performance in different settings is necessary.

Technical proficiency in hardware architecture, networking principles, and systems integration

· Strong, hands-on experience with Intel and AMD platform and a detailed understanding of their architectures

· Understanding of Smart NICs, FPGAs and GPUs are required.

· Familiarity with Low-latency and ultra-low latency system and network optimization is strongly preferred

• Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing high-performing engineering teams.

• Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.

• Firm Understanding of regulatory requirements and security protocols within financial markets.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field; equivalent work experience will be considered

• Strong understanding of the Institutional Equities and Fixed Income Trading

• Strong understanding of low-latency, algorithmic trading trading and its platforms

• Understanding of python and experience writing simple automations

• Self-Directed, Self-Motivated, and Self-Learning candidates preferred

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $205,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs#LI-SK1
