The Mount Sinai Health System Laboratory Technician B - Pathology - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time/Evenings (incl wknds & hol) in New York, New York

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for all internal and external customer contacts regarding reference laboratory testing. Receives, resolves and communicates outcome of complex issues. Act as liaison between internal and external reference laboratory vendors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Troubleshoot all problem specimens that have been designated for reference labs.

  2. Add on and cancel testing at reference labs when requested.

  3. Cancel tests that have been canceled at reference labs, enter comments and provide credit when applicable.

  4. Communicate to physicians and clients when special circumstances arise in the processing of their specimens at reference labs (i.e. order of priority when requested by reference labs, acquiring additional information as needed by reference labs, attaining NYS approval for non-NYS approved testing.)

  5. Ensure that results are transmitting properly with the interfaced labs.

  6. Enter results that are reported via fax and mail.

  7. Collect, prepare and package specimens for Reference Laboratory vendors adhering to guidelines.

  8. Monitor problem specimens and discard when necessary.

  9. Generate reports to track all specimens for Reference Laboratory vendors.

  10. Responsible for resolving interface exception logs and ensuring exceptions are resolved in an efficient manner.

  11. Assist in obtaining information on new and/or complex reference tests.

  12. Assist in issuing revised reports as necessary.

  13. Troubleshoot reference laboratory issues and notify supervisor of potential problems.

  14. Order and keep inventory of supplies needed to process specimens.

  15. Sort, file and store requisition slips for reference laboratory vendors.

  16. Sort, file, store and dump extra specimens for reference laboratory vendors.

  17. Keep temperature log of refrigerators and freezers used to store specimens.

  18. Keep a clean and safe work environment

  19. Any other duties assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma/GED, Associates degree preferred

  • 3-5 years clinical laboratory experience required.

  • Ability to type 30WPM
