New York University Laboratory Associate (Gibbs-Williams' Lab) in New York, New York

The Gibbs-Williams’ lab at NYU’s Department of Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Laboratory Associate.

Research in the Gibbs-Williams lab will investigate how mRNA association and transport with mitochondria contribute to proper axonal and synaptic function, and how these mechanisms impact neurodegeneration pathways. This position is for a trainee preparing for a research path. It will provide development of technical skills; supervision by senior scientists incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and possible publication of research findings during appointment period.

The laboratory associate will work closely with the PI setting up the new lab, including ordering supplies and establishing lab organization. Common experimental procedures will include mammalian cell culture, cloning, CRISPR editing, RNA isolation, transfections, western blotting, qPCR, mitochondrial preparation, and characterization, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy. The associate will also be expected to maintain accurate lab records in a lab notebook and participate in regular meetings.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $43,888 . New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

The ideal candidate will have a BS or MS in Biology or a related field and 2 years of research experience.
