Citigroup Investment Trading Principal - Municipal Bonds in New York, New York

Citi Investment Management (CIM) is a group within Citi Global Wealth Investments that manages assets on a discretionary and advisory basis for clients of Citi. With over $80 billion in assets under management and advisement globally, CIM manages a broad suite of investment strategies within single and multi-asset class products.

CIM is currently seeking an experienced municipal bond trader to join our team of investment professionals. This individual will be responsible for trading, quantitative analytics, and will maintain strong relationships with broker dealer partners while collaborating with portfolio managers and credit analysts. A strong candidate will demonstrate an ability to provide the portfolio management team with timely market commentary, relative value trade ideas, sector analysis, and creative solutions to improve efficiencies and strategy relative performance. Data analysis, programming and/or coding skills are a plus. The trader will be located with the US Fixed Income team in New York City, NY.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily execution of municipal bond trades

  • Work closely with portfolio managers to execute team strategies across credits, bond structures and the yield curve

  • Source opportunities in new issue and secondary markets

  • Develop and maintain working relationships with support partners including risk oversight, client service and fiduciary oversight teams

  • Actively participate in strategy discussion, monitor market conditions, credit trends, trading technical factors and provide ongoing market color to the team

  • Maintain fluency with trading systems, electronic trading venues and explore opportunities for trading efficiencies

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience

  • Knowledge of, and the ability to stay abreast of regulatory requirements

  • Knowledge of, or have the desire to learn about the markets and assets within which CIM trades

  • Familiarity with Equities Markets

  • Understanding of US regulatory framework with specific reference to trading activity

  • A good understanding of the asset management business including trade creation and settlement procedures

  • Detailed knowledge of municipal bond markets with a demonstrated history of making investment and trading decisions in a total-return context

  • 4+ years of trading experience within the municipal market across credits, sectors, structures and maturities

  • Have produced scheduled and ad hoc reports

  • Fluency with Bloomberg, Charles River, Microsoft Office

  • Programming and/or coding skills are a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred
