New York University HRSA BTG Postdoctoral Associate (P.I.: Dr. Courtney Chinn) in New York, New York

Position Summary:

New York University Department of Pediatric Dentistry has established a one year Bridging the Gap (BTG) Associateship focused specifically on oral health care for persons with disabilities and complex health conditions (PWDCMC). This Associateship is funded through a five-year postdoctoral HRSA training grant: D88HP37550. The purpose of the BTG Associateship is to create a sustainable primary care dental workforce that is equipped and empowered to increase the quality, acceptability, and timeliness of oral health care services for PWDCMC. This includes increased knowledge in the prevalent medical conditions, physical and neurodevelopmental disabilities that impact this population. Associates will receive training in approaches that help achieve optimal oral health for these underserved populations.

Principal Duties:

BTG Associates will provide comprehensive dental services at the NYU Dentistry Oral Health Center for Persons with Disabilities (OHCPD) and Bringing Smiles Comprehensive Care program (Bringing Smiles). BTG Associates will engage in didactic instruction which includes curriculum focused on special needs populations, fundamental techniques in anesthesia and sedation, cultural competence in oral health care delivery for PWDCMC, quality improvement in community-based oral health programs, inter professionalism, advocacy for vulnerable populations, teledentistry, and dental public health.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,500 - $62,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Position Qualifications:

Required Education:

DDS or DMD, no more than 5 years out of last program

Required Licensure:

Must have active NYS dental license by July 1st

Required Experience:

US accredited dental program, GPR or specialty program

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Excellent communication skills, strong command of dental procedures/treatments, desire to work with special needs and/or underserved populations, organized and highly motivated, works well with teams

Preferred Education:

Training in sedation and behavior management

Preferred Experience:

Community-based or school-based care, work with children or adults with special needs

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of EHR systems and teledentistry, Spanish fluency

Associate must be a US citizen or permanent resident
