Bloomberg Food Consumer Reporter, New York New York, New York

Bloomberg is looking for a reporter to join our team and track the big changes that are afoot in the way Americans eat and how companies are adapting.

The role is a part of the Consumer team at Bloomberg News, which covers some of the most influential brands in the world, from Walmart and McDonald's to Pepsi and Nike. How these brands perform and their strategic decisions tell us a lot about what’s going on with the economy and the state of the US consumer.

How will Pepsi continue to market and sell soda and chips to a consumer that is more health-conscious than ever before? How will the big cereal makers reformulate their recipes to adhere to new food dye bans and the changing forces in Washington? How will the biggest chocolate makers, like Hershey, navigate an increasingly warming climate that is driving up the cost of cocoa? And how will Kraft Heinz win over customers who are trading down to cheaper private-label brands?

You'll tell the biggest stories about food while dominating coverage on the industry and the issues that shape what we eat. You must be able to confidently break news on the biggest brands and products in grocery stores, write quickly on deadline and conceive and report impactful enterprise stories, video and podcasts.

This role can be based in New York or Chicago. To apply, please submit your resume along with at least three examples of your work by Friday, April 4, 2025.

  • Break news and get scoops that are meaningful

  • Have the energy and drive to come up with ideas for stories and projects that are informative, investigative and a delight to read and watch

  • Coordinate and work collaboratively with other news teams as well as our magazine, data journalism and visualization and video groups

You'll need to have:

  • Ten-plus years of journalism experience

  • Grace under deadline pressure and openness to feedback

  • Experience in cross-team collaboration
