NYU Langone Health System Division Director of Medical Ethics, Department of Population Health, NYU Grossm in New York, New York

NYU School of Grossman Medicine is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of Division Director of Medical Ethics in the Department of Population Health. The Dean and faculty consider this an exceptional opportunity to lead a preeminent, nationally recognized program in close collaboration with the departments of the NYUGSOM and other schools and colleges of New York University.

NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking a visionary, dynamic and creative Division Head, with a distinguished record of leadership, scholarship and other impactful achievements in the field of medical ethics, who can expand and strategically lead a growing, multi-disciplinary Division in ethics-oriented research, education, service, policy and advocacy. The Division is based in the highly regarded Department of Population Health, but its faculty work closely with many Departments in the School of Medicine and with other colleges and departments across NYU including nursing, dentistry, public policy, global public health, engineering, and philosophy. The Division currently has existing expertise in the ethics of organ transplantation, compassionate use and pre-approval access to therapies, gender-affirming care, organizational ethics, genomics, vaccination policy, artificial intelligence and research ethics.

The candidate should have the ability to foster and sustain collaborations and partnerships across our academic system and with external communities and groups. The Division has a significant footprint in working with patient groups, policymakers, not-for-profit organizations, companies and the media. Engagement with ethical challenges across a broad spectrum of bioethics is welcomed and encouraged.

The candidate should have demonstrated leadership in a university, medical center or research institute setting. Also critical is a track record of extramural funding, including NIH, corporate and/or foundation funding. The position is tenured so candidates must satisfy tenure requirements established by NYU. NYUGSOM seeks an esteemed bioethicist to serve as a Professor and Director of the Division of Medical Ethics, reporting to the Chair of the Department of Population Health. The incoming Director will lead an existing team of distinguished, highly productive ethicists as well as multidisciplinary affiliates of the Division.

The new Director will develop a strategic plan for the Division that includes engagement with academic and philanthropic partners, along with recruiting and retaining top talent. Key to this leader's success will be their ability to quickly understand the NYU environment and identify synergies necessary to maintain and grow a prestigious Division within a medical school. They must also be a strong systematic thinker who is capable of leading large-scale initiatives. The new Director is also expected to engage and inspire a wide range of partners to develop and advance pertinent clinical, academic, and research programs related to bioethics.
