The Role:

The Director of People and Culture is responsible for the administration and management of all aspects of the human resources function within the organization. This includes, but is not limited to, employee recruitment and selection, employee benefits and compensation, employee relations and communications, and employee training and development.

The Director plays a pivotal role in developing and executing HR and culture strategies that align with Educational Alliance’s strategic goals, mission, and objectives. They support the organization through staffing and related human resource tasks. They design, implement, and maintain various policies and programs related to recruitment, staff development, compensation and benefits, diversity, and employee relations. They may also develop or adjust programs to maintain competitiveness and appeal as an employer.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the People and Culture team, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities in the areas or talent acquisition, staff development, employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, performance management, and overall cultural enhancement.

  • Oversee and provide guidance for recruitment efforts, strategies and methodology including job posting, digital and non-digital marketing, job board procurement, recruitment campaign, resume review, interview tactics, initial offer, and talent planning and retention.

  • Develop a strategic plan to ensure that benefits, payroll, compensation review, equal employment opportunities, regular annual reviews for employees and probationary review for new employees, and other retention devices are kept up to date to maintain Educational Alliance as a competitive employer.

  • Ensure Educational Alliance follows all Federal, NYS and NYC employment laws, regulations, licensing requirements for staff, union rules and any other governing body that might apply.

  • Ensure Employee handbook is updated at least annually and more often if there is regulatory change.

  • Develop and implement strategies to promote diversity, equity and inclusion within the organization. Ensure policies and practices align with diversity and inclusion goals.

  • Incorporate cultural competency into all aspects of the Human Resource strategy and implementation.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Human Resources

  • A minimum of 10 years progressive Human Resources experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience leading a HR department/team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment laws

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of recruitment and selection processes and techniques.

  • Knowledge of employee development programs and performance management systems.

  • Familiarity with compensation and benefits programs.

  • Experience with union contracts and negotiations.

  • Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.

  • Experience in fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

  • Outstanding facilitation, interpersonal, and communication/presentation, and coaching skills.
