HarperCollins Publishers Director, Divisional Sales and Retail Development in New York, New York

Overview

HarperCollins is in search of a dynamic, proven sales leader to fill the position of Director, Divisional Sales & Retail Development. This role serves as a crucial link between Harlequin Trade Publishing and Sales to craft and execute effective commercial strategies while providing ongoing support to achieve publishing objectives. Thisnew position will report to the VP, Divisional Sales Director.

This is a hybrid position based out of our New York office.

Responsibilities

  • Sets seasonal sales goals aligned with the current marketplace and publisher expectations.

  • Regularly updates the Publishing team on progress towards budget and collaborate on plans to boost sales and address potential shortfalls.

  • Participates in editorial and acquisition meetings, leveraging a commercial and sales perspective to inform decisions.

  • Works with the publishing team on retail strategies aimed at strengthening author brands.

  • Leads seasonal and weekly title discussions in meetings with Marketing, Publicity, and Sales in New York and the field.

  • Acts as a conduit for feedback from accounts regarding the Harlequin Trade Publishing (HTP) list, account direction, retail opportunities, and market trends.

  • Collaborates with the sales team to provide insights to the publishing team on pricing, formatting, and timing of titles. Informs scheduling decisions based on insights into account promotions and opportunities.

  • Partners with Sales, Retail Marketing, and publishing teams to maximize retail promotion opportunities, with a focus on RDS, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon. Attends customer meetings as needed.

  • Analyzes sales reports to identify frontlist, backlist, and reorder opportunities.

  • Collaborates with Inventory and Publishing to anticipate and plan for stock needs.

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years' sales experience with broad knowledge of the marketplace and all sales channels

  • Demonstrated history of driving sales growth in key markets

  • Cross-functional leadership skills and the ability to collaborate effectively to achieve outstanding business results

  • Highly organized and analytical; must be able to develop and maintain processes and reporting for regularly assessing sales performance

The salary range for this position is $115,000-$125,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
