Amalgamated Bank CRE Portfolio Manager II in New York, New York

The Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Portfolio Manager lI is responsible for managing the existing commercial real estate loan portfolio as assigned in collaboration with the Portfolio Management Team Leader and the Relationship Managers (RMs). The portfolio manager will also work closely with the origination team and credit risk management in reviewing and underwriting new CRE credit opportunities, conducting due diligence, assessing credit risk, preparing deal screen presentations, and writing credit approval memorandums. The position requires strong credit ability, excellent communication skills, and adroit customer relationship management.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Portfolio Management

  • Provide ongoing daily management of CRE portfolio relationships

  • Request information when due for annual loan review; analyze leases, operating statements, and property appraisals; structure and underwrite new credit requests and renewals, which may include customer meetings and property inspections as needed

  • Manage assigned loan portfolio within Bank policy and customer service standards

  • Review financial statements and property operations on an ongoing basis for covenant compliance (undertakings)

  • Update of credit reviews, including spreading of annual and interim financial statements, and credit analysis

  • Perform covenant(s) compliance and the maintenance of records within borrower’s credit file

  • Assist RMs in acting as Bank contact post-transaction closing

  • Assist in early identification, classification and management of impaired credits, reporting same in a timely manner

  • Participate in resolving customer problems.

  • Monitor changes in borrower risk and recommend appropriate loan upgrades/downgrades

  • Credit Analysis

  • Assist in underwriting new lending opportunities

  • Assist in preparing comprehensive credit memorandums that provide in-depth analysis of new credit requests and analyze risks and mitigants of loan structures

  • Work with the origination team and credit as risks are uncovered during the underwriting/closing process

  • Maintain good working knowledge of the Bank’s lending policies/procedures and identify exceptions to credit policy

  • Attend meetings and/or conference calls on transactions

  • Perform other duties as directed

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of one to three years of prior relevant experience in commercial real estate lending

  • Demonstrated knowledge of CRE loan structures and treasury products

  • Ability to analyze leases, operating statements, tax returns, property condition reports, title reports, appraisals, and financial statements; understanding of critical lending/financial ratios

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications: Excellent Excel and Word skills.

  • Communication: speaks clearly and effectively, is thoughtful, persuasive; writes clearly and informatively; varies writing style to meet client needs

  • Business acumen: understands business implications of decisions; aligns work with strategic goals and performance objectives

  • Judgment: exhibits sound and accurate judgment; can clearly explain reasoning for decisions; includes appropriate people in decision-making process; demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles; takes calculated risks within bank tolerance to accomplish goals

    Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $90,000.00 – $105,000.00. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferrable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
