Skanska Cost Manager in New York, New York

Job Summary:

The Cost Manager assists and supports the project team on all projects. The position provides direct supervision, guidance, coaching, and support to team members, and delegates work to the team as needed. The Cost Manager must be a flexible and adaptable team player and have strong communication and client service skills.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Organizational Impact:

• Works to achieve operational targets with major impact on the departmental results.

• Contributes to the development of goals for the department and planning efforts (budgets, operational plans, etc.).

• May manage large projects or processes that span outside of immediate job area.

• Work is performed with limited oversight.

Innovation and Complexity:

• Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems or products to enhance performance of job area.

• Problems and issues faced typically impact multiple departments or specialties and require detailed information gathering, drawing from prior experience, analysis and investigation to understand and solve.

Communication and Influence:

• Communicates with parties within and outside of own job function as well as with parties external to the organization (eg, customers, vendors, etc.).

• Influences parties within and outside of the job function at an operational level regarding policies, procedures, and practices.

Leadership and Talent Management:

• Responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area.

• Manages major/complex projects, including delegation of work and review of others' work product.

Competencies / Skills:

Has advanced knowledge and ability to coach/guide others in:

  • Financial Statements and Recordkeeping: Creates and maintain reports that provide detailed financial information including assets, liabilities, equities, incomes, expenses and other related information.

  • Subcontractor Cost Management: Monitors, tracks, forecasts and supports negotiations of self-perform and subcontractor project costs and quantities, including labor, equipment, and materials to ensure projects are successful and profitable.

Has demonstrated proficiency in:

  • Budget & Cost Projections: Creates, validates and maintains cost systems to generate reports (ACR – Anticipated Cost Reports) for forecasting budget and cost projections for current and future activities.

  • Change Order Management - Cost Engineering: Identifies compensable changes, generates owner authorization requests and tracks submission process through final approval with owner. Ensures process complies with contractual obligations to protect the company’s interests and rights.

  • Client Delight: Builds relationships with individuals within client organizations to coordinate work and make decisions at the appropriate level for the short-term project and long-term partnership.

  • Contract Awareness: Reviews the client's prime contract as well as subcontracts and vendor agreements to ensure contract requirements are satisfied.

  • Cost Systems: Enters and utilizes cost systems and cost management processes to ensure up-to-date project financial information

  • Risk and Opportunity Management: Identifies potential risks related to operations, contracts, or project execution. Develops mitigation plans and strategies to control the impact of negative situations or to maximize opportunities throughout the life cycle of a project.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience and minimum 7 years prior relevant experience.• Requires deep knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.• May have a broad knowledge of project management.

Annual Salary Ranges: 130,000 to 180,000
