JOB DESCRIPTION

Coordinator Vascular Laboratory-Phillips Neuro Vascular Lab-Mount Sinai Union Square-Full Time, Days

Responsible for the supervision and coordination of all technical and clerical work performed at all PACC testing, phlebotomy and accessioning areas. Assists the Laboratory Manager as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises Phlebotomist and/or technologists and Lab Assistants at the bench. Monitors and assigns work schedules to maximize productivity. Ensures appropriate level of staffing at all times.

  • Processes STAT request. Ensures that results are completed and verified within the expected TAT.

  • Ensures test results are accurately entered into computer system.

  • Keeps staff informed about new/revised lab policies & procedures.

  • Provides assistance to hospital staff and clients with problems, concerns or questions.

  • Monitors safety practices of section, ensuring compliance of staff.

  • Monitors Quality control performed in OBGYN and Cancer Center. Ensures that monthly IQAP data for Hematology instrument is forwarded to Coulter.

  • Checks performance of instruments and equipment periodically making minor adjustments and repairs. Reports instrument malfunction and contacts service personnel as needed. Documents equipment checks and preventative maintenance on all instrumentation.

  • Reviews daily instruments and methodology quality controls and ensures that all controls are within established ranges and are documented. Ensures corrective action have been taken for out-of-range controls and are appropriately documented.

  • Assist in the performance of linearity and correlations studies.

  • Distributes and oversees performance of proficiency testing.

  • Communicates with Main Lab Supervisors/Managers regarding non accessioned specimens.

  • Ensures adherence to standard operating procedures and policies.

  • Participates in quality improvement activities, as directed by the section manager.

  • Tracks missing specimens, investigates problems, ensures that all work is completed, informs manager of concerns or delays.

  • Monitors inventory and supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in Medical Technology.

  • Must meet NYSDOH requirements to supervise a Limited-Service laboratory.

  • Two to six years' experience based on educational background.
