FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) at The City College of New York (CCNY) located in the heart of Harlem, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, it transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2017.The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master's Degree (27 months program).

CUNY School of Medicine as the home of healers and leaders, places a special emphasis on the recruitment of those who are underrepresented in the field of medicine, and on training high quality, culturally competent health professionals and scientists equipped to address the healthcare needs of New York's medically under-served communities. As a member of Counseling/Wellness Services and under the direction of the Senior Associate Dean for Wellness and Student Life, the Clinical Psychologist will provide leadership for a number of student wellness initiatives and events offered by the Office of Student Life and Wellness. They will be a key thought partner in planning, developing, maintaining, and evaluating the holistic mental health and wellbeing of our students. They shall be a licensed Clinical Psychologist who will provide mental health assessment and counseling and neuro-psychiatric testing to a diverse population of CUNY Med students in support of students’ academic success and retention and overall student mental health.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in the implementation and evaluation of the CUNY School of Medicine wellness programming and related activities;

  • Implement needs assessments to inform the focus of wellness initiatives and participate in strategic planning related to wellness and mental health services;

  • Provide short-term mental health counseling, consultation and referral of students for appropriate care in an interpersonally and culturally sensitive manner and document care in accordance with state law and with university policies and best practices.

  • Serve as a resource to faculty and staff on wellness-related issues.

  • Maintain awareness of current issues and best practices as related to wellness and mental health counseling services in higher education.

  • Participate on committees and in team meetings with relevant campus services and units.

  • Participate in continuous quality improvement;

  • May teach selective courses in psychology and engage in scholarly activity;

  • Perform other related responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD degree

Preferred:

  • Ability to effectively engage in therapeutic relationship

  • Ability to work with students by telephone or in person

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting

  • Sensitivity to diverse cultural and linguistic populations

COMPENSATION

$125,000
