New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor of Media & Design or Digital Practice, Non-Tenure-Track, to begin in September 2024. The appointed faculty member will be part of the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication (MCC). To complement and extend existing strengths in the department, we welcome candidates with teaching experience in (but not limited to) one or more of the following areas: design for good; critical making; graphics and motion graphics; creative and expressive coding; game design; 3D worlds and modeling; wireframing and prototyping; reverse engineering and hacking; architecture and the built environment; and interface and interaction design (UX/UI). We particularly welcome applications from candidates well-versed in teaching critically and culturally informed digital design through social, political and economic questions, via the relation between design and social advocacy and activism, and/or by way of experiments in radical pedagogy as world building.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students (expected 3:3 teaching load), participate in the activities of the MCC MediaLab, facilitate new course design as needed; advise undergraduate honors theses as needed, participate in faculty meetings, serve on committees, and provide other service to the University.

Clinical faculty are experienced teachers and practitioners in their areas of specialization. Candidates must have a PhD, MFA, or similar terminal degree by Spring 2024. In all cases, excellence in teaching and mentoring students is required. In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000-135,000.
