About this role

The role of a Card, Merchant Services, and Unsecured Lending Chief Information Officer (CIO) involves leading technology strategies for the payment card, merchant services, and unsecured lending business units. This high-level role integrates technology innovation, operational efficiency, and customer experience across these interrelated domains.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to develop a forward-looking IT roadmap for card services, merchant platforms, and unsecured lending systems.

  • Incorporate digital transformation and modernization initiatives to remain competitive in the financial services landscape.

  • Ensure robust, secure, and scalable platforms for credit and debit card issuance, processing, and servicing.

  • Ability to integrate tools for fraud detection, credit scoring, and rewards program management.

  • Optimize mobile and digital wallet solutions for seamless customer experiences.

  • Experience supporting merchant payment platforms with cutting-edge tools, including point-of-sale (POS) systems, contactless payments, and e-commerce integration.

  • Experience with enhancing payment processing efficiency, reduce transaction costs, and improve merchant onboarding processes.

  • Implement analytics to provide merchants with actionable insights, such as sales trends and customer behaviors.

  • Develop platforms that support personal loans, revolving credit, and other unsecured lending products.

  • Leverage AI and machine learning for real-time credit decisioning, risk assessment, and loan servicing.

  • Integrate mobile-friendly lending solutions to meet growing demand for quick, digital loan approvals.

Position Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes

  • Prioritize customer experience through omnichannel access to cards, payments, and lending products.

  • Use predictive analytics to create personalized offers and loan terms tailored to individual needs.

  • Enhance transparency and trust by leveraging blockchain for lending and transaction histories.

  • Safeguard sensitive cardholder data and transaction details through advanced encryption and fraud detection systems.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations such as PCI-DSS, GDPR, and local lending laws.

  • Build resilient systems to counteract cybersecurity threats like phishing and data breaches.

  • Reduce operational costs while enhancing system performance and reliability.

  • Collaborate with fintech partners, payment processors, and technology vendors to deliver innovative solutions.

  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure high performance and cost-effective contracts.

  • Enable API-based ecosystems that allow third-party developers to integrate with core services.

  • Integrating unsecured lending and merchant payment solutions into retail platforms, e-commerce sites, and apps.

  • Growing adoption of contactless cards, QR codes, and mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay.

  • Expanding point-of-sale financing options for merchants and consumers.

  • Utilizing machine learning to assess creditworthiness and automate underwriting decisions in real time.

  • Exploring blockchain-based payment and lending platforms for faster, more secure transactions.

  • Supporting environmentally conscious projects through unsecured loans and merchant partnerships.

  • Adhering to a complex web of global and regional regulations for payments and lending.

  • Ensuring transparent pricing and terms in unsecured lending to avoid legal issues.

  • Identifying patent opportunities.

  • Stay informed about the latest developments in AI technology and its applications in various industries.

  • Keep an eye on competitor products, identifying key differentiators and areas where your product can outperform in terms of functionality, performance, and user experience.

  • Conduct market research to understand customer needs, emerging trends, and potential areas for product growth. Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and align business and technical.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of technology strategic leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.

  • 4+ years of management experience

  • Experience driving large-scale IT transformations, particularly in financial services.

  • In-depth knowledge of card processing systems, payment gateways, and unsecured lending platforms.

  • Familiarity with technologies like AI/ML, blockchain, API ecosystems, and cloud infrastructure.

  • Understanding of the economics of card services, merchant fees, and unsecured lending interest models.

  • Expertise in navigating financial regulations and implementing robust cybersecurity frameworks.

  • Deliver scalable, secure, and customer-friendly payment and lending solutions.

  • Drive revenue growth by supporting merchant and customer acquisition.

  • Enhance operational efficiency while mitigating risks and regulatory challenges.

  • Foster innovation and maintain a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving market.

  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating the performance of AI models and measuring business impact.

  • Deep understanding of banking systems, fintech innovations, and regulatory requirements across various business domains.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and coordinate across multiple organizational levels and domains.

  • Demonstrated expertise in AI technologies and their application in financial services.

  • Strong leadership and influencing skills within a complex, matrixed environment; able to gain support and cooperation and build effective business partnerships with all levels of team members to achieve results without direct organizational control.

  • Transformation experience within large matrixed organizations and how to simplify the organization.

  • Experience operating in a highly regulated environment, ideally a large financial institution.

  • A high level of comfort working with ambiguity or uncertainty with exceptional organizational and project management skills with an ability to manage numerous, competing demands from internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong executive presence, the ability to interact and communicate with C-level executives and regulators.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strategic mindset and the ability to think critically and solve complex problems.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$249,500.00 - $518,300.00
