What You’ll Be Doing

The US Business Management group provides direct day-to-day support for CIBC’s US Capital Markets business, primarily Sales and Trading, Debt Capital Markets and Corporate and Investment Banking. The group’s primary role is to assist in achieving the mandate to be a premier client-focused global bank.

The Business Management group serves as the primary liaison between all Capital Markets Front Office teams, as well as their internal and external vendors, brokers and suppliers. The group supports the Capital Markets Front Office businesses with new initiatives and projects in an effort to drive and sustain profitability. US Business Management also strives to ensure a sound control environment and provides financial advice to support the business strategy. This role is responsible for supporting the team’s Executive Directors in all aspects of business management through proactive responsiveness to information requests and helping to resolve day-to-day service or business related issues with a primary focus on coordination of risk identification, governance and systems administration.

How You’ll Succeed

The role will primarily be responsible for the following:

  • Leading and coordinating risk identification activities across front-line staff including organizing workshop and challenge sessions, as well as inventorying/ documenting risks and mitigations on behalf of the business.

  • Leading or supporting development and annual review/recalibration of line of business specific risk appetite/segment risk statements/product risk statements with a focus on emerging enterprise, credit, market, operational and strategic risks.

  • Working with front-line staff and Risk Management to propose appropriate control thresholds based on any available analysis of historic, current or forecasted data.

  • Working with Risk Management and Corporate Banking on annual concentration limit refresh and subsequent data exercises

  • Working with Governance & Controls team to respond to attestations, management and board threshold breaches (e.g., root cause analysis, action plan and timelines to address) and provide to Risk Management for inclusion in reporting

  • Identifying, reporting on; and escalating when metrics exceed control thresholds (e.g., early warning risk trigger, management risk limit, etc.)

  • Championing data requirements and systems to support ongoing MIS and reporting enhancements

  • Planning, scoping and executing targeted reviews in consultation with the Risk Management department

In addition to the primary Business Risk responsibilities, the role will also assist in Global Markets business management as needed, to include:

  • Build and maintain working relationships with stakeholders across the different businesses our team supports (e.g., Cash Equities, Equity Derivatives, Commodities, Fixed Income, Treasury, etc).

  • Manage an effective and documented internal control structure, by maintaining desk policies and procedures as well as adherence to, and successful testing of, internal controls and logical access reviews; maintain, support and enhance the information risk policies, standards, guidelines, processes and metrics.

  • Coordinate information and data responses to internal and external auditor / regulator requests.

  • Maintain and analyze key performance metrics on behalf of the business; supporting the preparation of business and client plans by performing data analysis, reviewing market trends and creating presentation materials.

  • Be responsive and accessible to the business throughout the day; be proactive in response to information requests and promptly resolve any day-to-day service or business related issues.

You can demonstrate experience with:

  • Highly motivated, self-starter; able to work in a fast paced, results driven environment.

  • 3–10 years of demonstrated experience as a Business Manager, Consultant, Auditor or Risk professional.

  • Experience working in the financial services industry, or accounting, consulting and finance backgrounds preferred.

  • Excellent organizational skills with a good attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation skills.

  • Ability to execute tasks under aggressive targets and effectively manage to changes in plan.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications (i.e., Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Visio).

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of USD$130,000 – USD$160,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. Additional total compensation and benefits details will be provided during the hiring process.
