The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Center for Career Education (CCE) serves undergraduate students in Columbia College, The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science and the School of General Studies and collaborates with Career Centers in the other schools at Columbia University and its affiliated institutions.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to working closely with the Associate Dean of Experiential Education to develop experiential learning programs such as internship, exploratory, and mentorship programs for students from the undergraduate schools served by CCE. The incumbent will take primary responsibility for employer/internship development (in conjunction with the Center's Employer and Alumni Relations Team) and managing associated logistics in conjunction with the Center's Administration and Planning Team.

  • Work closely with the Associate Dean of Experiential Education to develop, manage, and coordinate internship and experiential education programs. This is likely to include working directly with employers to develop opportunities for Columbia students and managing relationships thereafter. Work closely with the Administration and Planning team to oversee associated program logistics where required. The Associate Director will be required to take responsibility for specific programs and participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Alongside the Associate Dean, work closely with CCE's Event Management and Communications team to support student engagement and recruitment for Experiential Education programs. Work in partnership with the Employer and Alumni Relations team at CCE to follow up with employers interested in CCE's new and existing programs.
  • Work closely with the Experiential Education team and other colleagues to develop a program of activities to help students prepare for their experiences. Provide support to students, alumni, and employers during the experiences and work with students, employers, and alumni to evaluate the benefits of program participation.
  • As a member of the Center's career counseling team, provide individual and group counseling to undergraduates from our three schools as well as individual support for students engaged in the Center's experiential education programs. Participate in the Center's "quick questions" rotation.
  • Travel on behalf of CCE to assist in the development of appropriate and mutually beneficial relationships between employers, educational institutions, and Columbia.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of related experience in career services, student affairs, graduate recruitment, university relations and/or marketing, or the equivalent combination of education experience required.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Must be able to pay close attention to detail, work collaboratively, manage relationships with multiple constituencies, and meet tight deadlines.

Availability to work some evenings throughout the year required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant area preferred.
  • Ability to understand the career and employment needs of students and communicate these to potential employers; desire to help students gain internship and other professional experiences; experience of managing and overseeing educational programs for college students desired.
  • Superior client management skills and an ability to develop and maintain new relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Google Workspace, and Salesforce.
  • Ability to travel on behalf of CCE to develop and maintain relationships with employers and alumni.
