The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of the M.S. in Real Estate Development (MSRED) Program, the Associate Director of Academic Affairs is responsible for the organization and planning of the day-to-day academic and administrative activities of the program, including financial management, personnel management, space management and the provision of student and faculty services. The Associate Director of Academic Affairs works with GSAPP senior management to monitor the program's administrative and instructional budgets.

Responsibilities

Academic/Program Administration (50%)

  1. Participates in high-level, confidential decision-making, recommending faculty hires and salaries to the Director. Works closely with GSAPP senior administration to process documentation and administer all faculty, staff, and student appointments; explains University benefits and policies.
  2. Oversees the adjunct faculty appointment processing, ensuring timely submissions.
  3. Under the direction of the MSRED Director and Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs, will assist with preparing documentation related to faculty searches, tenure and academic research appointments and other academic administration.
  4. Assists GSAPP senior management (Associate Deans) in reviewing curricular planning, curriculum proposal, faculty teaching schedules, class times, and room assignments; engages in planning new program initiatives and directs their implementation.
  5. Oversees confidential student files and tracks student rankings, fellowship preferences, and awards.
  6. Under the direction of the Senior Associate Dean for Administration and Faculty Affairs, oversees the administrative and human resources functions of the MSRED faculty, including assisting the Director in determining personnel, personnel recognition, recommendations, and addressing faculty concerns.
  7. Demonstrates day-to-day leadership and guidance to staff by proactively managing and providing clear, timely, and university-compliant solutions on various administrative and financial matters.
  8. Collaborates with University offices and departments to oversee logistics for the smooth operation of the program, including facility needs, maintenance, and repair as needed.

Finance and Budget (40%)

  1. Under the direction of the Senior Associate Dean for Administration and Faculty Affairs, provides oversight and directs the program's financial planning and accounting practices, maintains financial management reporting and control systems, monitors department expenses and oversees compliance with University/affiliate policies, procedures, and regulations.
  2. Responsible for monitoring expenses; oversees fellowship/assistant budget; responsible for preventing overdrafts; recommends level of spending; works with Finance Office in resolving financial problems.
  3. Serves as the main point of contact for faculty and is the liaison between the MSRED faculty and Finance Office.

Perform other related duties, assignments, and/or special projects as assigned. (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree desirable.
  • Minimum of four years relevant experience in areas including financial management and personnel supervision.
  • Must have or be able to acquire quickly a detailed knowledge of University policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required. Initiative, discretion, ability to establish priorities, ability to work under pressure and without supervision, and good independent judgment are needed.
  • Computer literacy and experience with funds management are required.
