The editorial team at Random House Worlds is seeking an Assistant to report to the Editorial Directors of Licensed Nonfiction and Fiction at Random House Worlds, handling licensed projects for high-profile brands such as Star Wars, Stranger Things, Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, Minecraft, and more. The position provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in a creative and hands-on department, dedicated to creating best-in-class licensed books. We are a highly collaborative team who love to bring our authentic style of nerdery to our favorite pop culture worlds. The Editorial Assistant will be responsible for daily editorial activities and administrative support. 

The Role:

• Overseeing the scheduling and preparation of materials for departmental meetings 

• Writing catalog/flap copy (the synopsis/sell of the book) and fact sheets 

• Creating and maintaining departmental pub plans and schedules  

• Submitting various materials to relevant licensor approval systems 

• Assisting with author, licensor, and agent communications and requests 

• Taking and distributing minutes for recurring departmental meetings 

• Running and distributing sales reports by pulling data from internal systems 

• Representing the imprint at possible trade and consumer shows 

• Evaluating manuscripts, outlines, and proposals 

• Brainstorming new story ideas and book formats  

• Helping to track current and upcoming pop-culture trends across a variety of entertainment mediums 

Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Candidates should have demonstrated success in a fast-paced work environment that necessitates managing complicated schedules and attention to administrative detail.   Random House Worlds is a collaborative publishing environment, and candidates should be comfortable working as part of a team and willing to go the extra mile for authors and licensing partners.  

The Essentials: 

• Genuine interest in licensed publishing and pop culture 

• Strong organizational, scheduling, and time management skills 

• Talent for creative writing and narrative development  

• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills 

• Strong ability to multitask and prioritize under pressure in a deadline driven environment 

• Collaborative and curious, willingness to take on additional projects for editors in-house 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook 

• Familiarity with SAP a plus 

• No relocation is required, position can be remote 

Entry-level salary for this position is $48,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program. Kindly include your cover letter and resume in our application system.
