THE OPPORTUNITY/POSITION DESCRIPTION

This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is an exciting one. The position will also be part of and work within the Pediatric Center for Liver Disease & Transplantation, part of the Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation within the Department of Surgery. CUIMC is one of the nation's foremost academic health science centers working together with one of the nation's premier health systems, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The clinical faculty is responsible for inpatient and outpatient care and management of children with liver disease and small bowel transplantation within the Division and NYP-MSCH.

Additional clinical responsibilities will include:

  • Standard conference preparation for patient management and transplant selection conferences, inpatient and outpatient consult services.
  • Participation in the education of medical students, residents and fellows at CUIMC/NYP-MSCH and scholarly activity.
  • All requirements for the academic tracks and promotions within the Department of Pediatrics such scholarly activity.
  • May include participation in publication of original articles; presentations at local, regional and national meetings, CME events; and the development of teaching methods or clinical curricula.
  • Involvement in clinical research trials is expected. The successful applicant will participate in the academic activities of the division and department, including research seminars and teaching conferences. University and public service activities are also expected of faculty.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a MD or DO degree.
  • Must have completed an ACGME approved fellowship in Pediatric Transplant Hepatology and Pediatric Gastroenterology.
  • Must be Board eligible/certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Gastroenterology and Pediatric Transplant Hepatology.
  • Must meet UNOS qualifications as a transplant physician.
  • Must be eligible to be licensed in the States of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
  • Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines.
  • The ability to create a high-energy results-oriented work environment that encourages colleagues and staff to value each other's contributions.
  • The ability to share and celebrate success with colleagues and staff.
