Position Title: Assistant Professor

Job Description:

The Division of Molecular Imaging and Neuropathology is looking for a motivated and creative Assistant Professor to conduct research into the neurobiology of depression and suicidal behavior using mouse models and postmortem human brain.

Duties:

  • Conduct a program of research into the neurobiology of mood disorders and suicidal behavior and the mechanisms of action of antidepressants.
  • Publish research findings in peer reviewed journals.
  • Attract external grant support, particularly from the NIH or NSF.
  • Teach and serve on committees as required.

Salary range:

$100,000 - $100,000 per year


Qualifications:

PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in the neurosciences or a related area

Assistant Professor also requires completion of a postdoctoral fellowship and obtaining some NIH or equivalent funding support.

Preferred qualification:

  • Expertise in mouse and postmortem human brain studies of mood disorders, antidepressants and neuroinflammation
  • Expertise in quantitative whole-brain microscopy to quantify neural activity in rodent models and in the application of quantitative neuroanatomical methods to postmortem human brain
  • Knowledge and experience in methods for quantifying brain inflammatory markers, in brain mapping protocols, to study regional brain relationships, and in histologic procedures to stain for inflammatory and other neural markers.
  • Experience in validating translational findings by comparing mouse datasets with human brain datasets with the goal of correlating inflammatory levels in mice and humans with depression phenotypes and evaluating biological effects related to antidepressant action (e.g., (R,S)-ketamine)
  • Peer reviewed publications in journals with an impact factor greater than 5.
