Job Description

AECOM is seeking a growth-oriented Architecture Director for our NY Metro Offices. This person will be leading major pursuits and developing teams to complete both small and large projects. The successful candidate will have experience leading and growing Architectural teams in a multi-disciplinary firm and NYC-based public agencies such as MTA, DDC, EDC etc.

The incumbent will have a proven track record in client leadership, design quality and leadership, project delivery and technical excellence and can convey innovative design thinking and solutions to deliver to our internal staff and external clients.

The responsibilities of role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership for AECOM’s 100 -person Architectural practice.

  • Create strategy for growth of the team and implement the strategy.

  • Oversee the Architectural Technical Team.

  • Participate in major pursuits for both standalone Architecture opportunities and in conjunction with other AECOM discipline leads.

  • Coordinate Architectural staffing with other AECOM Business Lines.

  • Establish staff ‘s goals and annually review staff and conduct Annual Performance Reviews; recommend salary increases.

  • Act as an adviser and review documents prepared by Architectural team members, performing technical quality reviews and being responsible for the overall Department quality and profitability.

  • Develop fee estimates, assist with proposal preparation, and participate in client presentations.

  • Meet with clients and maintain good client relations.

  • Stay current with the latest design requirements, techniques, tools, and principles.

  • Leads the practice and pursuits, collaborating with NYM’s cross-business line leadership.

  • Working in alternate delivery and/or delivering building-infrastructure consulting scopes of work.

  • Provide thought and design leadership on key projects and Programs.

  • Together with regional practice leadership and market sector leaders, build high-performance design teams – soliciting and managing client feedback to align operations and allocate resources according to strategic priorities, recognizing and unleashing the potential of others by providing the needed environment, resources, coaching, experiences, and other support champions an innovative and collaborative culture.

  • Champions change – makes the AECOM vision understandable, creates buy-in to the vision by linking day-to-day work to the attainment of the vision, and engages and mobilizes others to drive change.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Architecture or related industry degree (Engineer, Interior Designer, or Planner) plus 12 years of related experience and/or demonstrated equivalency of experience and education with 4 years of demonstrated multi-disciplinary office/practice leadership.

  • Licensed professional - Architect.

  • Must have client relationships and completion of projects in NYC’s largest public agencies such as DDC, EDC, SCA.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Acted as principal-in-charge of a large/multi-disciplined project /consultant team.

  • Successfully delivered projects within the clients’ budget/schedule requirements.

  • Successfully delivered project scope and fee, delivering targeted profit to the firm interfaced with project managers on schedules, project review meetings, issues management, and client expectations.

  • An ability to travel and/or work remotely with teams.

  • A strong desire to train, mentor, and develop staff to grow their careers and the business.

  • 10 years of experience in the NY Metro geographic marketplace.

  • Other expertise may include concentrated experience in client markets such as Transportation, Higher Education, Federal, and Cities. Each considered an important market sector to the role.

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.

  • Relocation is available for this position.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $220,000.00 - $310,000.00.
