Entergy Senior Manager, Grid Control Systems in New Orleans, Louisiana

Job Summary/Purpose

Seeking candidates with extensive expertise in T&D system protection, distribution automation, and control system development with a background in utility operations management.

The Grid Technology organization will be responsible for delivering new technological solutions and programmatic support to Power Delivery and Capital Project stakeholders through development of strategy, technological roadmap, and execution model to be leveraged across Power Delivery, Capital Projects, and IT. The overall strategy will cover sustainability of existing functionality, roadmap and plans for new capabilities, and research and innovation to further empower and emphasize enterprise goals. A methodical technology plan and implementation approach will significantly increase ability to achieve these enterprise objectives and become the premier utility.

Within the Grid Technology organization, the Sr. Mgr., Grid Control Solutions leads a diverse team of employees and stakeholders to develop and execute the strategy for grid protection, automation, and control systems meanwhile partnering with other teams executing strategies to increase efficiency and improve power quality, work management, asset management reliability, and customer experience.

This is achieved, in part, by providing leadership and management, leading the development of front end loading (FEL) project development meanwhile supporting overall execution and operations across other workgroups. This includes functional areas across transmission and distribution such as protection, automation, SCADA, automated switching, RTUs, end to end device and settings management, controller functionality, synchro phasors, fault locating and simulation and testing.

The Sr. Mgr., Grid Control Solutions position will establish and maintain the road map and overall strategy driven by Entergy’s Operating Companies through the Business and IT. Additionally, this position will develop new and innovative solutions to help solve operational and emerging challenges surrounding grid evolution, system performance, and life cycle management of Power Delivery applications and technology across the functions previously mentioned above.

The Sr. Mgr., Grid Automation & Control leads the development of strategies, processes, capabilities and procedures for grid control solutions. Additionally, this manager will be responsible for communicating strategies, plans, associated progress and issues to leadership within Entergy’s operating companies, to regulatory agencies, and to community leaders within Entergy’s operating company territories.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide safety leadership by exemplifying strong safety culture for others to follow.

  • Develops execution roadmap and strategy for grid control solutions portfoliio. Build budgets and evaluate risk. Participate in benchmarking and self-assessments to improve process and system performance.

  • Lead and execute front end loading (FEL) activities as it relates to grid control project development in functional areas outlined above.

  • Develop and support new and innovative solutions through planning, design, build, and test enabling capabilities to be deployed at scale through partnering workgroups, which are an integral part of Entergy’s overall multi-state, multi-operating company grid modernization.

  • Supports the project implementation team, including external vendors. Coordinates with other Entergy workgroups to ensure grid edge solutions are in alignment and supports other major initiatives. Provides leadership and oversight to manage and support the day-to-day operations and strategy of Power Delivery - Grid Tech deployment and operations.

  • Identifies Resource Requirements, forecast work, fill, and maintain positions to support project requirements.

  • Reporting Value Realization from project performance and benefits tracking to insure value from Grid tech projects.

  • Provide safety leadership by exemplifying strong safety culture for others to follow.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred (Engineering or related field) or equivalent work experience.

Minimum experience required of the position

  • 10 years’ experience in utility business operations, project management, engineering, and technology and more specifically within the protection, automation, and control space across both transmission and distribution. Work experience as business or team lead on strategic engineering projects. Experience with both existing and new distribution and transmission operating principles, systems, processes and equipment required.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; team player.

  • Thorough understanding of protection, control systems, SCADA, ADMS and associated grid automation programs and standards.

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to lead and manage multi-projects and workgroups simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of Entergy electric system design and operations.

  • Knowledge in establishing processes and procedures that meet regulatory and standards requirements.

  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group

  • Strong ability to apply broad industry and commercial awareness to drive financial and operational performance.

Any certificates, licenses, etc . required for the position

  • PE certification desired but not required
